Dante sat with his head in his hands, the only sound in the room the soft beeping of the heart monitor. "How could this have happened?" He quietly asked himself, shaking his head. First his dad goes to the hospital thanks to some psychopathic college students, and then his boyfriend and step-brother punches his sister in the face and then runs away. Dante wished he could have stopped him. He wished he could have stopped him from wanting more of that goddamned drug. It was all Dante's fault anyways. He never should have let Carlos meet Dave. That's how all of this started. Dave gave Carlos his first hit, and that was it. Not to mention more than a bit of emotional and mental scarring.
Dante had been filled in on what had happened thanks to his mother, who was currently waiting to see if his father would be alright. Carlos had wanted a higher dosage of Meth, and Valerie wouldn't give it to him because she knew better. His body couldn't handle it. Finally, Carlos snapped and took it by force, leaving his sister with a broken nose. He then ran into town, locking himself in Dave's house where he smoked all of it. His heart stopped. Dave tried to get him to the hospital, and that's when Antonio showed up. But he had been in no condition to do anything, so Dave had taken him to the hospital as well. Dante had fought with his mom over the phone until he came to get him. This was the first time Dante had seen Carlos all night.
The sight wasn't pretty. He was covered in bruises thanks to his weak body, and there were so many machines hooked up to him that Dante couldn't even tell which wires went where. Jess told him that Carlos went into a coma, and she didn't know if he'd wake up, the only thing keeping him breathing was the machine he was hooked up to. A spike on the heart monitor let Dante know that Carlos was still fighting, even if it was just a little.
Dante gently reached for Carlos's hand, flinching at how cold it was. Almost as if he were already dead. Dante let his fingers stroke the back of his step-brother's; his boyfriend's hand, noting how soft it was. It was almost like it used to be. Dante just couldn't get over how cold it was. Almost like when his mom would come in after staying out so long he'd almost get frost bite. So cold, so. . . dead.
Dante hated that word. It was associated with so many negative things, and he didn't want Carlos, love in general, to be one of them. Then, something unexpected happened. He felt Carlos's hand twitch in his own. Then he felt it tighten around it as if Carlos was anchoring himself to this earth. And to the both of them, he was. Carlos didn't say anything as he smiled up at Dante, tears in his eyes as he felt himself slipping away. He mouthed three simple words before he went away, right in front of Dante's eyes.
Dante didn't want to believe this, couldn't believe it even as he felt the hand that had guided him through so many things, the hand that cared for him, the hand that belonged to the most wonderful person Dante had ever met, go limp. He shook his head, tears rolling down his cheeks, eyes wide as he stared at Carlos. The heart monitor went flat, Jake and Jess burst into the room, and Dante screamed.
A/N: If you're wondering, their mother is Amber, my OC for Georgia. Their dad is indeed Spain. Dante is my OC for the piedmont region, Carlos is my OC for the coastal region. This is all based off an RP I'm still doing.
