Home.
He stared at the blank piece of paper in frustration, angry at the words that wouldn't come. It wasn't that he was unsure or confused about his feelings, he just lacked the ability to articulate them. He pushed his chair back abruptly and began to pace, he wanted to get this done before the reason behind his need for perfection came home...
Home.
For so long it had been a cold, loveless place. A place where affection was measured out in scraps, where nothing was given freely and even the smallest gesture of kindness had to be earned. He recalled how shocking it had been to be with someone who heaped love and affection on him, asking nothing in return, someone who's seemingly limitless capacity to love and forgive had deemed him worthy. At first he had not trusted in it, this overwhelming devotion, how could he when it was the antithesis of all he had known. But slowly, steadily, his barriers were breached then broken. And in their place grew a tentative belief that maybe he was worth it, maybe he did deserve to be loved like this. It took time, his nature was to distrust, and many times in the beginning he had purposefully attempted to sabotage their relationship in the mistaken belief that it was only a matter of time before he was unceremoniously thrown out in the cold. That it would hurt less in the long run.
How wrong he'd been. With unfailing care and patience lavished upon him he'd begun to see that love was not an object to be won or a special gift rarely provided. It could be given freely, in abundance. He discovered that the very act of loving someone wholly, completely, was its own reward. That a home wasn't a house but a feeling of security, where you were loved just for being you, where you trusted in it to the very centre of your being.
Where home could be a person.
As Draco smiled to himself, he realized that all he had to do was picture his Harry, his home and the vows would write themselves.
