Kanda sighed. Now Allen was mad. He hadn't meant to say that, but now the boy was shouting things at him. And that always made him see red. When he heard those things he couldn't help but react. And then there were the stony silences, when there was nowhere else for Allen to sit in the canteen, or when they were sent on a mission together. The silences that stretched on forever. He always wanted to break them. Always. But there was never anything to say.

He hated that. Allen was usually so happy. So smiley, always laughing with Lavi, always having something to say. So why couldn't Kanda talk to him? He knew that if he said something they'd just end up fighting again. He smirked. There was only one person in the order who he wanted to get to know; One person who he wanted to spend time with, and yet he was the only person in the order who didn't get on with the kid. He had tried. But it was so hard. He couldn't talk to him. Hell he couldn't talk to anyone, let alone someone he liked…

It wasn't helped by the fact that he had attacked the boy the first day they had met. But that was his job. He rubbed the back of his neck. There was nothing he could do about it. He had tried the other day, to talk to the boy, but then Komui had called him to go off on a mission and he had missed his chance. Allen had just taken the awkward silence to mean that Kanda was annoyed with him about something, about nothing.

He sighed again. It was morning now. He got up. Another day, another hundred chances to miss. He picked up Mugen and walked out of the door. He bumped into someone. Allen. He looked up. Allen smiled nervously. "S…sorry Kanda, I didn't…" Kanda looked up. Smiled slightly. "It's ok. I… I don't mind. Do you ant to go eat or something…?"

In real life Kanda carried on walking. He ignored the nervous look on Allen's face.

Missed another chance.
