Hey guys, it's been a while. And I re-watched Rise like three times today, and I came up with this.
Disclaimer: If it was up to me, Castle and Beckett would have been together by the season 2 finale, and instead of Gina showing up and Kate clamming up, Kate would have went all bad-ass detective on her and whomped her a good one, and then Castle hands Beckett the keys, and the closing scene would have been Castle and Beckett speeding away in the Ferrari.
It was two a.m. and Detective Kate Beckett had been asleep for about four hours by the time the phone rang. She habitually picked it up and slid her thumb across the screen. "Becket," she answered in her usual standard form. "Katie..." was slurred by a voice Kate knew all too well. Josh...
"What do you want Josh?" she asked steeling her voice to a coldness she reserves for the morons who don't get the hint. "Another chance," Kate didn't have to really listen to know what he was saying because of all the times he had shown up at her doorstep drunk, "I'm sorry for what I said. And I want you back." Kate rolled her eyes, "Same old sob story." she thought. "Josh, I..." but she was cut off before she could finish her sentence. "That Castle guy isn't right for you Katie. He doesn't know how to take care of you."
Josh finally stopped slurring long enough for Kate to get a word in. "Josh, we are over. I thought that I made that clear the first time I told you. And I'm not saying it again." she waited for his drunken response and after only a couple seconds. "But Katie, I still love you. And it's his fault that you were shot." Kate was livid by now, "It was NOT Castle's fault that I was shot. And I am tir..." once again cut off by Josh, "Yes it was, it was complete..." it was her turn to cut him off, "You know what, it's just not worth it anymore." "But Katie, I lov..." "Screw you Josh." and Kate hung up the phone.
She threw the phone down and flopped back over from her back to her left side, the only position that was comfortable since she was shot eight weeks ago. She felt an arm curl around her middle, mindful of the still-tender bullet wound, and pull her closer. She didn't resist as she was tired, emotionally drained because of her fight with Josh, and the sleeping and pain pills kicked in again. "What was that about?" he asked. "Josh was being an ass." "Again?" Kate nodded against the solid figure behind her, "Yes,"
"It's okay." Kate chocked back tears, "I know." and she snuggled into Castle's warm body. She fell asleep in his arms, completely forgetting about Josh for the time being.
