Tokka Week, Day 1: Look my way
Toph Bei Fong is anything but ordinary. There is nothing average or normal in sight of her. Her bones may creak with the strain of being the greatest ever and her feet may ache with the exhaustion of standing out from the crowd, but it does not changed the fact that Toph Bei Fong is not your average girl.
Therefore, it can also be concluded that her feelings for Sokka are not your average crush. Oh, there is a large part of her that believes that it is, right down to the tiniest groan in her pinky finger. But Toph does not have any idea how deep it penetrates.
She does not realize how strong her longing for him has become, so much more than that of other girls. Toph cannot comprehend how the overwhelming desire for Sokka to turn his moronic head and look her way would stifle any feelings that might actually fall under the category of a crush.
Toph does not understand that the strange, empty feeling in her heart, when she watches Sokka peck Suki on the cheek, is not emptiness at all; but, in fact, pure and utter selflessness.
She has not seen the fierceness of love in Katara's eyes, although she has sensed it in her heartbeat. Could she see it, Toph still has no way of knowing that the fire roaring in Katara's heart all started with a spark that was not too different from the flicker in Toph's now.
Her uniqueness does not go unoticed, either. Although he has not realized it, either, something in Toph compells Sokka to her. There is a part of him that longs to stay by her side and to love her and to protect her, no matter what he feels on the outside. Eventually, he will look her way. For now, though, their relationship will remain strictly platonic in Sokka's eyes. But as the years go by...time changes all thing, even the nature of love itself.
Toph is anything but ordinary. She is impatient in a large portion of proceedings, but when her little patience does show itself, Toph is ready to wait through anything. Sokka is likely to take five more years before he identifies the pull to her and acts on it, but that's okay, because Toph Bei Fong is not your average girl. Somewhere deep down inside her, she's realized that love is worth the wait.
