"Happy birthday, Sev!" Lily exclaimed as Severus opened the present she had gotten for him for his sixteenth birthday.

"Thanks," Sev replied looking at the small black box. It had several buttons on it, and Sev had no idea what it was. It looked like some kind of Muggle gadget. "Um, what is it?" he asked after examining it.

"It's a Muggle device called a taperecorder. I thought you could use it record how to make different types of potions and stuff. You know." Lily shrugged. "Do you like it? You don't like it. I know you hate Muggle stuff. I should have just gotten you some new stuff to make potions with. This is completely useless." She grabbed the recorder out of Severus hand. She was about to throw it in the trash can, but Sev caught her hand and took it.

"I love it," he said.

"Really?"

"Really," Severus agreed. He looked into Lily's green eyes and smiled. He felt save here. He always felt safe when he was with Lily.

They stayed sitting on the couch in Lily's living room for a long time. They didn't move until Lily's sister barged in and exclaimed, "Lily, have you seen my..." She broke off when she saw Sev. "Eww, why is he here again?"

"Petunia!" Lily exclaimed. "He's my friend, my best friend."

"More like your only friend," Petunia mumbled.

"Petunia!" Lily cried. "You're being such a jerk today!"

"I don't care," replied Petunia. "Why would I care what you think? You're just a...just a freak!" She stomped out of the room, and Lily sighed.

"What was that all about?" Mr. Evans asked as he walked in.

"Nothing," Lily answered with another sigh. "We're going to my room."

"Leave the door open!" Mr. Evans cried after them as they walked up the stairs.

"Lily?" Sev asked.

"What?"

"Why does your dad want you to leave the door open?" he asked innocently.

"Because Sev," was all Lily said.

"Because what?" Sev asked again.

"Because, he'll think we're having sex, Sev," Lily answered rolling her eyes.

Severus took his finger off the record button of his tape recorder and said, "Oh."

When he got home, Severus edited the recorder and smiled evilly when it was all set.

"Hey, Snivellus!" cried James from across the yards the first day back at Hogwarts. "Whatcha got there?" he asked as he took the tape recorder from Sev's hand. "What is this? Is it Muggle?"

"Let me see it," demanded Sirius. He fumbled around with it for a minute before he said, "I don't get it."

"Honestly, you two," said Remus as he took it from Sirius. "There's a play button right here."

He hit play, and the recorder said, "We're having sex, Sev," in Lily's voice.

"What?" exclaimed James. He kept rewinding it and replaying not believing his ears. Snape laughed and watched for a few minutes before taking it back.

"Something wrong Potter?" he asked before walking away smiling.
