BUNNIES AND BASKETS
By: Vanessa Sgroi
"Hey, Dean! Come, quick—I found something!"
"Aww, Sam," Dean entered the Bunker's common room, wiping his hands on a towel. "Can't the research wait? I was just in the middle of making lunch."
"This will only take a minute."
"So what's so all-fired important?"
"This." Sam held up a large basket filled with chocolate bunnies, marshmallow PEEPS, malted milk and peanut butter eggs, jelly beans, and a whole host of other candies.
Dean's face pinched in confusion for a moment before a big grin split his face. His eyes glittered with delight. "You made me an Easter basket?"
Sam's expression turned a little shy and sheepish. "Yeah. I mean, I know how much you like candy and everything was just...there...at the store this morning so..."
Dean took the basket with reverence. "Dude, this is awesome!"
"Good. I'm glad you like it. I thought you'd think it was...uh...stupid or something."
"No way!" Dean shook his head vehemently. "Oh, hey, I got something for you too. Hold on..." Dean disappeared down the hall toward his bedroom, returning minutes later carrying a big box. He shoved it into Sam's hands. "Here...Happy Easter."
Sam glanced through the cellophane window. "Wow, that is one big bunny!"
"Solid chocolate too! None of that hollow stuff."
"He looks kinda...angry..."
"You'd be angry too if you were about to get eaten."
Sam snorted. "Been there, done that. You're right—I WAS angry."
"So let's break that baby open!"
"No way! I say we dig into your basket first."
The brothers sat down across from each other at one of the tables. Dean sat the basket between them and they dug in, wrappers tearing and flying at great speed.
Sam grabbed a peanut butter egg and shoved it into his mouth. "Hey, Dean, remember that time Bobby made us Easter baskets when we were kids?"
"Oh, yeah! He hid them so well it took us hours to find them!"
"Right! We eventually asked him to help us, and he'd forgotten exactly where he'd put them."
Dean suddenly giggled. "I also remember you crying because you thought he gave you a big rock in the middle of yours."
"Hey, it was a coconut egg. Yours was all smooth and pretty. Mine was all craggy and rough. To a little kid, it looked like a giant rock!"
FIN
A/N: The egg that looked like a rock? Based on a true story. Apparently, I once thought my parents had given me a giant rock in my Easter basket instead of a giant egg. My older brother got the peanut butter egg and I got the coconut egg.
