A/N – A short one-shot inspired by the Alicia Keys song Superwoman, as ever I don't own anything.
Superwoman -
She sat at her desk, her head hidden by the immense pile of files that had found their way into her office whilst the team had been away in Minnesota for their latest case. Putting her hands on the top file her eyes caught a glimpse of the clock on the wall, 11pm, sighing she knew that she shouldn't be here, she should have followed the rest of the team home after the jet had landed but instead JJ had wandered back to her office to survey the chaos that had landed in her absence. JJ took a hold of the file and brought it down to read, internally cursing herself as she thought that even Hotch had gone home to Jack, but instead JJ was here pushing her body to its physical limits as she stayed to see what horrors would face the team the next morning. Why did she insist on doing this to her body, her life, who did she think she was...superwoman?
JJ could hardly keep her eyes open any longer as she put the tenth file down, followed by her pen as it lay on top of her notes she had made. Glancing around her desk JJ breathed a sigh of relief as she could finally see the door from her seated position, her bright blue eyes then dropped down and a large smile crept across her face as the photo came into focus. JJ couldn't believe how much he had grown as she concentrated on the large grin and matching blue eyes staring back at her. This was the reason she was here at 4am in the morning, the reason for waking up in the morning, the reason...the reason for everything. JJ found a burst of energy as she picked up her bag, stopping briefly to turn the lights off and lock her office, before heading down to the garage and drive home.
It was nearly dawn when JJ pulled into the drive, stepping out she looked out over to the horizon and saw the red haze appearing as the sun pushed up, signalling the start of yet another day. JJ quietly unlocked the front door and put her bag down before slipping her shoes off so that she could creep up the stairs. As she tiptoed up JJ shrugged the jacket from her shoulders and left it on the stairs, her feet padding quietly on the carpet as she headed for the bedroom. JJ stopped briefly at the first bedroom, poking her head around the door as she saw Will laying flat on his stomach fast asleep, she smiled and blew him a kiss before continuing with her journey. Ten seconds later JJ was standing in the room, looking down to the cot at the small figure who was squiggling and moving around, knowing that he was about to wake up JJ leant down and picked the toddler up.
"Hey little man, momma has missed you!"
JJ carried the bleary eyed Henry over to the wicker chair in the room and sat down holding him as tight as she could as her child squiggled in her arms.
"Momma!"
"Oh Henry you don't know how much I needed this!"
JJ held her son up as he giggled and poked his small fingers into her mouth, her heart relaxed as the reason for her punishing schedule moved around in her arms. JJ felt her body relax as she remembered why she pushed herself so hard, why she was a superwoman.
