Reasonable Doubt
By Kage Chikara
The morning had a light, humid feel to it, with extra-fluffy clouds. Detective Gumshoe was eating a donut and drinking a cup of sludge that pretended to be coffee at his favorite watering hole when Prosecutor Edgeworth entered.
"Detective." He said stiffly and Gumshoe jumped to his feet, dropping his donut onto his plate from numb fingers.
"Er, Mr. Edgeworth, sir!" He felt the urge to salute but restrained himself because Edgeworth's eyebrow was already creeping toward the sky.
"I was wondering, Detective." Edgeworth said, sitting down across from him. Gumshoe sat down on instinct. "If I could get your help with this latest case I'm working on."
Gumshoe blinked. "O-of course, Mr. Edgeworth." Edgeworth smiled his tiny, self-satisfied smile and Gumshoe went bright red, his heart beating faster. "I mean, the police always like to help prosecutors…with anything they need." He could think of some things he would like to help Edgeworth with.
Edgeworth smirked. "Thank you, Detective. Your help is always appreciated." He reached across the table so their fingers brushed and tangled together.
"S-s-sure thing, pal!!" Gumshoe said, his voice shaky.
Edgeworth's smirk widened incrementally. "That…report." He said, and then stopped.
"Report?" Gumshoe said, blinking a little, his mind filled with hearts dancing in a circle around a mental image of a sparkling, gayified version of Edgeworth.
"The report your department filed, about the evidence found at the scene. I would like to see it modified," Edgeworth said.
Gumshoe blinked. "M-m-modified? Not sure I follow, pal."
Edgeworth reached into his pocket. "I would like this added to the evidence found in the house." He dropped a silver ring into Gumshoe's hand.
"But, hey, isn't this…" Gumshoe said, confused. "I mean, doesn't this belong to the suspect?"
Edgeworth did his finger-shaking dance, his foot nudging against Gumshoe's leg under the table, hooking their ankles together so they would rub lightly against each other. Gumshoe shuddered. "Don't worry about that, my dear detective," he said, in a tone that declared his vast superiority. "Let me consider these little details."
"I-I'm not sure I'm supposed to do that.." Gumshoe said uncertainly.
"I would consider it a personal favor," Edgeworth stressed, his foot going up to run once over Gumshoe's thigh. Even with shoes in the way, the effect made Gumshoe twitch visibly.
"Well, I guess I could," he said softly. "For you, Mr. Edgeworth."
Edgeworth chuckled and got up, adjusting his coat. "Have a good day, detective," he said, walking out, leaving Gumshoe burning and freezing at the same time.
"You too, sir,' Gumshoe said, sipping his now cold coffee. "You, too.'
