Warnings: Set in Season 8 so spoilery if you haven't seen it yet.
Summary: Tag to S08E02: Sam, immediately after the auction, in the car with Dean.
Before, Sam would've reached across, switched the tape off. Before, he might've been prepared to bitch at the tedium of listening to the same songs over and over, the lack of originality, and, if he was feeling particularly angry, maybe bring up Dad.
Before.
Now he listens to Unforgiven, and to Dean singing along tunelessly and does nothing. Says nothing.
How he hates the Nothing.
He stares out through the rain-jewelled windshield and thinks about defenses. How he has none left. Pity it wasn't Captain America's weaponry they'd encountered at the auction; he could do with that shield right now.
