Blue Eyes

She sat alone in art class
Quiet, shy, never speaking
With bright blue eyes she watched
As person after person said their name
Showed heir drawing and sat down
I seemed like forever, before she was called
Emily, the teacher had called What describes you?
She stood then, straight and proud My name is Emily,
She began in a voice strong and true
And this is what describes me.
She held up a drawing, full of many things
Pencils, dogs, cats, hats, pen and paper,
Wolves, birds, stars, triangles and hearts,
But in the center, surrounded by doodled and drawings,
Lay a photo of three, happy family.
Father, mother, little girl
All the kids stopped their texting,
Their talking and playing to see
The picture of a lonely girl so quiet and shy
Who happened to be just like them.
My name is Emily White, She said again
And this is me. She slowly sat down, and they turned back
She was nothing special, nothing new.
She was the shy girl, alone in art class,
Quiet, shy, never speaking.
