I always have,
even when things weren't right between us.
Even when we fought.
Even when we lied.
Even when we hated.
I always watched you.
It was me outside your window,
all those times.
Did you know that?
I think, maybe, you did.
You suspected, but you never knew for sure.
But now you do.
Do you know what I thought,
when I was there,
watching you sleep?
I remembered better times.
Times when we were friends.
Times when we were lovers.
Times when we didn't hate so much.
I don't remember when it started.
Or ended.
Maybe you do.
Maybe, one day, I can ask you.
You might even tell me.
Or I might tell you.
We might even believe.
But, somehow I doubt it.
Too much has happened.
Too much was hidden.
Too much was said.
And at the same time, not enough.
I did love you, you know.
I still do.
So do you, I think.
In fact, I know.
I've watched you.
You keep a picture of me in your room.
You look at it, every night.
You smile at it, every night.
You run a finger over it, every night.

but the hate remains.
