Captain's Log; Supplemental Entry
Tomorrow is the day… the day we launch. I still can't believe it's happening. Finally, after all this time, the starship Enterprise will be embarking on it's five year mission into the unknown. However, our five year mission isn't exactly starting out as I hoped it would.
Not that long ago, Vulcan was destroyed. We are unsure as to how many of it's citizens survived, but my first offer (Commander Spock) estimates that (out of the six billion inhabitants) only 10,000 live on.
This has had an tremendous impact on the Federation. Not necessarily in the average day sense, but it has had butchered the morale. Too add to this, the people of Earth are panicking. They are saying that if it can happen to Vulcan, it can happen to our homeworld. This is part of the reason why our original flight plan has been delayed.
However, all I am grateful for is that we are finally launching. Mankind deserves to be out among the stars… not tied down to Earth. We need to discover our origins. I am hoping to succeed in my own personal mission.
Tonight, Admiral Pike will be taking me and a few others out for a few pints. A little victory drink, I say! I will, most likely, regret this tomorrow. But, this will be the last time I'll see my fantastic little planet (and my family and friends) for a while. I intend to enjoy the last of my time here!
James T. Kirk, Captain.
Signing off.
