Disclaimer: Sorry guys, but I don't own any of the characters from Chuck, despite how much I want to. I do own the gunmen though, but that isn't saying much.
Welcome, to my little Chuck fanfiction. I am sorry it is not what most of you were wanting but I felt the urge to write it.
Okay, I know that Casey/Sarah is not a big ship, but in moments on the show, the looks they give each other and how they act, I can't help but think how cute they are together. I still like Chuck/Sarah, but I felt like this ship needed to be heard. (Author's Note: This fic has been reworked. I also feel it should be said that this fic was originally written back before season one was over. I just decided to go back and edit it recently.)
I hope some of you appreciate all the work I did on it and enjoy it.
Gunshots sounded all around, deafening Agents Walker and Casey.
Nine gunmen were positioned around the cubicle complex, poised to gun down the deadly duo if they were to leave their temporary bunker. The two secret agents, sheltered in the cubicle nearest the main office, were tasked with keeping anyone from entering it. Their mission was to protect Chuck while the Intersect was taken out of his brain. As far as team Bartowski was concerned, this would be the last mission Sarah and Casey would take part in together.
Based on the way things were going so far, they feared this would be their last mission, period.
Careful to avoid the range of the gunmen, Casey moved just enough to shoot at them and then out of their range.
Breathing heavily from her last near miss, Sarah asked, "How many rounds do you have left?"
Casey checked his gun. "Not enough. You?"
Taking out her magazine, Sarah closed her eyes in disappointment then opened them again as she said, "The same."
John Casey inwardly swore. His eyes met hers. "Doesn't look good, does it?"
"Not really," she said, preparing another strike.
Casey simultaneously began doing the same. "On three?"
She nodded. "One."
"Two."
They never said the final number. Instead, the two aimed around their respective sides of the cubicle and fired. Casey grazed the marksman nearest them and Sarah struck the gut of an enemy further away. Sarah's victim fell to the floor from his perch on a desk and didn't rise again. The pair retreated back into safety from the bullets peppering the walls of their cubicle.
"Nice shot," Casey noted appreciatively.
Sarah repositioned her gun then met his gaze. "Thanks."
The bullets from their assailants halted momentarily, as if their enemies were also regrouping.
Casey took advantage of the brief respite and cleared his throat. It was hard for him to proceed, but, given the circumstances, he didn't feel now was the time to hesitate. With less anger in his voice than on any other mission, Casey finally spoke up. "I mean it. I suppose I'm trying to say…" he paused. "Our job here is almost over and though I know we didn't always get along, I've grown to admire you these last few years. It's been an honor to work with you."
Sarah's eyes had widened slightly in astonishment at her soon-to-be ex-partner. She was surprised, to say the least, but touched. She wasn't sure if she was imagining the emotion in his voice but she couldn't help the way her heart started beating faster that had nothing to do with adrenaline. Sarah Walker was skilled agent though, trained to keep her composure though. Instead she gave him her most sincere smile and willed him to understand how she felt when she said, "You too."
Casey understood, but heard grunting from the cubicles with their attackers. Their respite was almost over. He continued in a casual tone that contrasted greatly against his worry for their current predicament. "This is really it, isn't it? Our last mission?"
She followed his suit, answering in a joking tone, even though the reality itself saddened her more than she cared to admit. "You just now figuring that out?"
He grinned at her joke then turned away to hide his disappointment at the prospect. Hearing scuffles that sounded like advancing enemies, he quickly peered around the corner to check their progress. The sound Casey heard, it turned out, was the nearest man readying a rifle, at John's appearance, the attacker fired. Casey managed to jerk his head back just in time to avoid getting his head blasted off by the multitude of bullets that went blasting at him.
Casey leaned in to tell Sarah what he learned, "There's still eight left of the original fifteen. Do you think we can make it?"
Forcing more optimism in her voice then she felt, Sarah answered. "I say we can try."
He cocked his head and raised eyebrow. "Is that CIA code for: we're screwed?"
She laughed bitterly as she nodded. "Oh yeah. We're screwed."
"And General Beckman said this mission would be easier," Casey muttered. "Yeah, right."
Ignoring the taunts of the gunmen and the grumblings of her partner, Sarah looked over at Casey. "So what now?"
Putting more thought in answering than the CIA agent thought necessary, Casey replied, "Well, if you had the chance to do something great right before you died, would you do it?"
Sarah wasn't sure what he meant, but thinking seriously for a moment, she responded anyway, "Absolutely."
Seemingly relieved, Casey said with a glimmer in his eye, "I was hoping you'd say that."
And before Sarah could respond or question him further, Casey reached over and kissed her straight on lips. The euphoria that existed in that moment was unmatched by any felt before by either of them. The moment lasted for an eternity in which there were no enemy gunmen or Intersects to protect, but the moment their lips pulled apart, it seemed to have been over far too soon.
Once they'd caught their breath, Casey spoke quickly. "I'm sorry Sarah, I know I've got the worst timing- I've always had the worst timing and the worst attitude; but over the years we've served together, I've really grown to admire you as an agent and a woman. I'm glad you were my partner." Casey said all this with no regard to the marksmen still firing at their cubicle. He continued breathing heavily. "Say or think what you want but if I hadn't have kissed you I would have regretted it."
He then made to fire at the taunting men again, but Sarah grabbed his arm and looked straight into his eyes. With every bit of emotion and gravity that the occasion required she replied, "I would have too. I'm just glad I'm not the only one. I just want you to know that I've admired your work as well. It's been a privilege, Casey. Now let's win this."
Smiling, Casey was filled with all the adrenaline and energy need to fight off an elephant. An idea sparked in his brain, "Sounds like a good idea to me. What do you think? Shall we charge them?"
"All or nothing," Sarah agreed smiling also. She squeezed his hand once and then let go.
Then they struck. Without warning, the pair charged out from their hiding spot, guns blazing. Casey immediately shot down the farthest opponent then reached forward and kicked the closest man to disorient him while shooting another enemy. Then he grabbed the man he just winded to use as a shield. This tactic worked so that his fourth target, whom was farther away, missed Casey and instead dispatched of the third man just before John, in turn, killed the man firing on him.
Sarah, meanwhile, shot a closer target to relieve him of his pistol. Next, while dodging behind cubicles walls, shot at two foes at once with both guns and finally managed to take them both out. For her last hit, she narrowly avoiding the final man's bullets before getting to his more secluded cubicle and shooting him with the more powerful gun she'd picked up from one of her earlier.
Suddenly the guns were all silent. The enemy agents seeking Chuck's Intersect had all been caught off guard by Team Bartowski's switch to the offensive and now they were all dead. Sarah slowly, cautiously, holstered her gun as she turned to face Casey. He stood more in the middle of the complex than she did. There were flecks of blood on his face and shirt, though she didn't know if the blood was his or not. His shoulders were still broad and sure. He was exhausted just like he was, but they were both alive. Slowly, she made her way through the destroyed cubicles, and over their fallen enemies and the toppled chairs to stand beside him.
Neither of them spoke for a moment, almost as if neither of them knew what to say. Sarah felt more like a nervous schoolgirl around a crush than a trained agent who'd just dispatched four men. Finally, she looked up at him with a coy smile, "Well that wasn't as hard as it seemed. That was a good idea."
"I do have them occasionally," Casey joked lightly. A softer look crossed his face as he looked at her. "In fact, I'm having another right now."
He leaned down to kiss her gently. She returned it happily, letting her relief seep into it. Sooner that she would have liked, however, he pulled away from her.
"That is a good one," she said, staring deeply into his eyes, a mischievous expression building in hers. "I have an even better one though."
With that she proceeded to wrap her arms around his neck and pulled him into an even deeper kiss than the last two. This one was much more passionate, as if she was using this kiss to prove to herself that they had both survived. Casey, however, had no complaints. He thought that they might as well end their last mission on a spectacular note and kiss while they could.
It was not, their last kiss or mission though, not by a long shot, but one of many more to come in the next few years they spent as partners on other assignments. Though they might sometimes disagree on mission tactics, they do agree on how they feel about each other and their superiors agree on how well they work together.
(And they spied happily ever after.)
And that's that. It is over. I hope most of you made it this far and will review and tell me if you liked it or not.
Oh, and to the readers who really liked this story, I did start a prequel thing. I only got a couple chapters into it but still. I did write more Sarah/Casey. I can't guarantee updates but I can guarantee its existence.
[EDIT: Also I hope y'all like the edits I made to this. I reread it and I just had a lot of issues with grammar and the blatant errors and wording so I fixed it. Also there are some parts where I just outright changed the dialogue because well the first time I wrote it was 2007 and I didn't know what I was doing and I felt I could do better. Hopefully I can go back and edit the chapters I wrote for the prequel and, who know, actually post that third chapter I never finished/edited, but we'll see.
Let me know if any of you actually read the new version and like the edits or think it's better or just like the story.]
Thanks for reading guys, please guys review!
