when she's curled up on
his couch

messy red falling across
tear stained cheeks
dried sleep in the corner of one eye
she laughs
because she sees herself
clear as muddy brown eyes
uglybrokenworthless
so he tells her
eyes meeting
not pretty
beautiful

and she stares at him
smiles
wincing as it pulls the
blue marring her face
she tells him
thank you
falls asleep in his warmth
in the morning leaving
nothing but a note that says
good-bye

mad
but after all
it isn't like she's

later
to a girl

sitting in his kitchen
it's been long enough
for the bruises on her

to heal

a cup of coffee
