Sleep

She has never seen him look so peaceful before.

She never saw him this content before.

Then again, it wasn't everyday you see a sleeping Natsume alone in the woods.

As she crouched down near his sitting position, she took great notice of his features. She was never allowed to before, and she was taking the risk now.

She started from the top. She saw a great mass of dark hair, disarray and unkempt, as it naturally is. She pitched forward, her hand reaching out to touch it, but stopped in midair.

She might wake him up.

She stared at his closed eyes, amazed at his long eye lashes and naturally arched eyebrows.

She wished she could she his eyes open, so she could see the rich mahogany color in them. It was a mix of ruby and chocolate brown, with specks of hazel, very tantalizing, which is why she finds it so hard to look at.

It was too much for her. She might get lost in them.

Her eyes traveled down to his pointed nose, which is currently taking even breaths. He looked really tired before. He needed this rest.

She looked at his slightly parted lips. They were so…tempting. His lips were mocking her, as if challenging her to touch them with her own. She quickly averted her gaze.

It was a wonder why his lips look so nice, but the words that come out of it aren't. She almost grinned at the thought.

She looked at his chest, which was clothed in their school uniform, heaving up and down evenly, a sure sign he was still sleeping.

She smiled sadly at his hands. She knew they were rough and calloused, solid proof to his hard past.

She sighed heavily. She longed for him to open up to her, even just a bit more, so she could understand him more.

She sighed. Natsume's past is still a big mystery to her. But she's determined to open him up. She definitely will. Someday.

She laughed at her optimism.

She glanced back at Natsume. He was still asleep.

She smiled gently.

This was one of the few rare moments when she could be honest to herself, when she was with him. She felt safe and protected, albeit to their constant bickering.

She smiled again. She shifted positions and is now sitting next to him. She closed her eyes.

Unconsciously, she started whispering things to him.

"You know, Natsume, I've never seen you so peaceful before."

"I'm glad I did. I saw another side of you that I'm not supposed to know."

"But I guess I'm really just stubborn, right?"

"I wish you'd open up to me."

"I wish I can see you smile."

"You…you amaze me, you know?"

"I just…oh, I don't know."

She opened her eyes. She turned to look at him and smiled once more.

"I love you…" She whispered, barely audible. He didn't stir.

He was still sleeping.

She smiled and stood up.

She looked at the sky. It was getting dark.

They should be going now.

She turned her attention back at him.

She inched closer to wake him, but he started to stir.

She grinned. He has perfect timing.

He blinked, his eyes confused and unfocused.

She giggled. He looked so cute.

She stopped when he looked at her with questioning eyes.

"Good afternoon, sleepyhead. You slept all afternoon."

She smiled at him and reached out her hand.

He raised a brow at her.

"Let's go back together."

He hesitated, but nevertheless took her hand.

She smiled.

And they went back hand in hand.

She could've never been happier.

It was fun watching him sleep, she mused.

…but she'd prefer an awake Natsume better, she concluded.
