Hey everyone. This story was written for The Fortnightly Thread's Challenge's Snape Appreciation Challenge. I wrote for Shelf 5 19. Weedosoros write an Assassin AU. I think this a very good first chapter for my Assassin Au. I hope you all enjoy Catch Me If You Can.
I watched my prey from the unlit shadows. He didn't suspect that anyone was following which is why my employer came to me to begin with. Someone had told Lord Voldemort that I was the best. It had been days that I was following this man. The man I was supposed to be gathering information on so I could slip into his life and kill him. His name James Potter.
"Is anyone there?" his voice came floating to my ears.
I hadn't realized that I had made a sound until I looked over a piece of rubbish that had appeared somewhere ahead of me where once there had been none. I sighed in exasperation at myself. I had one job to keep quiet and gather information and I couldn't do that properly. I walked out of the shadows schooling my features into one of fear.
"Please don't hurt me," I cried as I made the tears fall down my face. "I promise you I don't know anything."
He held his hands up as though to prove he wasn't planning to harm me. Stupid idiot. He bought that hook line and sinker. He walked towards me hands still in the air. Practically defenseless. I could do the job now and no one would be the wiser.
"My name is James Potter," he told me as though talking to a trapped animal that would attack at any minute. "I'm not going to hurt you but you have to be honest with me. Whose after you?"
"I don't know," the lie rolled easily off my tongue. "They had masks in the shape of skulls on. I didn't get a good at their faces. But they killed my family and I know they'll kill me."
He looked at me as though trying to discern any lie out of what I was saying to him. He knew that people were after him and wife. Someone must have tipped him off. I looked around in fear maybe the person who tipped James Potter off was here.
"Don't worry," James assured me. "You're safe with me and my friends. We're Aurrors from the Ministry of Magic. Come this way..."
"Delilah," the next lie came as easily as the first one had. "Delilah McGee."
"Come this way, Ms. McGee. We'll keep you safe."
Just then three other men came crashing around the corner wands pulled and pointed in my direction. I only just had time enough to apparate away from the scene before they could slow enough to get out any spell. I couldn't believe my eyes though. They sent in the rat without even informing me that he was in play too. I would have to get in contact with my bosses and find out why. But for now I would I hide in the shadows and watch. And continue to gather my information. After all no would suspect sweet little Dorcas Meadows of being a double agent.
As the concealment spell that was hiding my true features came to an end I watched the four men argue down below me. My time would come yet again and I would not fail to do the job next time.
