Arms of the Angel

Warning: This has self harm and genderbending. (I love Rule 63. :3)

I recommend listening to "In the Arms of the Angel," by Sarah M. (Can't remember her last name, just that it starts with an M.)

...

Raphael panted as she slammed her door shut. With shaking hands, she reached up, and locked the door.

Her chest heaved with each breath she took.

'Monster. Freak. Killer. Fire. Anger.'

Those words echoed in her mind over and over.

Each time, growing more and more painful.

Raphael knelt and held her head in her hands. She bent over, wanting nothing more, but for it to end.

The accusing looks.

The words of anger, hatred and disappointment.

The whispers of her anger issues.

And the everlasting silence she was receiving.

Raphael sat up and reached for her sais.

The three pronged weapon glinted at her in the dim lighting.

She removed her mask and padding before laying out on her stomach.

She looked at the blade one last time before making contact with her wrist.

Raphael bit back a cry and dragged the blade once. Twice. Three times across her wrist before doing the same on her other wrist.

Her breathing grew heavy.

It was starting to become harder to stay awake.

So, she closed her eyes, expecting them to stay shut forever.

...

Raphael groaned as she came to. She felt weightless, and she realized she was in the sky.

The soft, moist, cloud held her up.

"My daughter," a female voice said, "you have woken."

Raphael turned around and saw a young woman walk, or rather fly, over.

Her gold tinted wings shimmered in the sunlight.

Her raven hair flowed down her back.

Her kimono, richer than snow and pearls.

The woman smiled down at her.

"W-who..."

"My dear Raphael...my beloved child..." she whispered.

Raphael narrowed her eyes, when a flash of memory crossed her mind.

The woman.

She's seen her before.

"...mom?"

The woman, Tang Shen, nodded.

She held her arms out, letting Raphael fall into them, "Hush my child. You are safe. Right here in my arms."

Raphael sobbed softly.

"Am I dead?" She asked.

Tang Shen smiled gently, "No. It's not your time. Not yet."

"But I..."

"I know my child."

Raphael looked at her, "If I'm not dead...why..."

"I am your guide. My job is to lead those who are ready to move on, get to the gates of their eternal life. And I guide those, like you, who aren't ready for death."

Raphael nodded and stood.

Tang Shen smiled and wrapped her arms around her second youngest, "I will be with you every step of the way."

...

Raphael and Tang Shen walked for several minutes.

"GIVE YOUR BROTHER ROOM!"

"SHE'S NOT BREATHING!"

"I CAN'T FIND HER PULSE!"

"CHILDREN! WE MUST PRAY! DONATELLO, DO WHAT YOU CAN MY SON!"

Raphael held her breath as they neared her home.

She could hear her brothers, sister and father.

They must have found her.

Her dieing body.

Tang Shen wrapped her arms around her shoulders, and gently, she led Raphael to her body. She smiled at Yoshi, her beloved husband.

Raphael sat on her body, feeling weird as she did.

"I'm gonna miss you."

Tang Shen took her into her arms, "And I shall miss you. When you awake, look in your left hand."

Before Raphael could ask, Tang Shen vanished with a chime and a series of feathers.

Slowly, she laid down, becoming one with her body again.

...

Raphael groaned and opened her eyes.

She closed them quickly as light shot into them.

A ran rubbed her head.

She looked up and saw her father looking down at her, "Never scare me like that again! I was worried I lost you!"

Raphael sat up and wrapped her arms around him.

Yoshi sat shocked at the affection, but he quickly embraced his trembling daughter.

Raphael pulled away, just as her brothers and sister ran in.

"RAPH!"

"RAPHIE!"

"YOU'RE ALIVE!"

"DID YOUR LIFE FLASH BEFORE YOUR EYES?!"

"CHILDREN!"

The three turtles backed away, "Sorry."

Yoshi nodded and looked at Raphael.

But her gaze, was on her left hand.

It was curled slightly, but it didn't hide the glow coming from it.

Michelangela leaned over to get a look.

Raphael looked up and opened her arms.

There, in her arms, was a small flame.

It curled around her wrist, over her scars, before it settled and turned into a blossom charmed ring on her smallest finger.

"Whoa..."

Raphael smiled as the words, 'I will always hold you in my arms, no matter how much fire burns through your loving heart."

"Raphie," Michelangela said, "where'd you go...when you were...dead?"

Before her brothers could hit their baby sister, Raphael spoke up, "I woke up on a cloud...but..."

Yoshi looked at her, "But?"

Raphael smiled, "The thing I remember most...was being held in the arms of an angel."
