The legacy of the Scorpion King had come to an end, and his dwelling began to collapse. With him permanently gone, there was no longer any need for it. Two unfortunate men could be seen holding on while dammed souls were trying to carry them into a deep crevice. They couldn't pull themselves up; it took all their strength to just hold on. One of them, a man named Rick O' Connell, yelled at a woman named Evelyn to go.
Evy ignored the order and just stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do. Her instinct was telling her to run, but a small inner voice was begging her to stay and help him. Seeing that she didn't have much time, she quickly made her decision. When Rick was pulled out, the other man, former priest Imhotep, suddenly cried out in an ancient tongue. "Anck-su-namun! Save me!"
This was directed towards another woman who stood across the chamber. The words did not spur her to save him like he wanted; it only filled her with more anxiety. Her soul mate was in danger, but the pyramid was collapsing. If she went to save him, there was a distinct chance that she would lose her own life. Despite everything that he went through for her sake, she couldn't find it in herself to risk her own life for him. Her need for self-preservation was stronger than any love she felt for him.
Tears started to fill Imhotep's eyes as she turned her back on him, but they did not spill. The sorrow he felt was great. Anck-su-namun was everything to him. She was the reason he kept fighting. It was with her in his memory that he was able to take the pain of the Homdai curse. Now, she abandoned him. With one last look at the direction in which she ran, he let go of the edge. The dammed dragged him down to his final resting place.
Vengeance took this act as a cue to act on his behalf. As the scarab beetles consumed her flesh, Anck-su-namun felt genuine fear for the first time. Her evil deeds were many, and she had no time to prepare herself for the afterlife. Unfortunately, it was already too late for as soon as that thought entered her mind.
