This is my first fanfic and it is written for X-Hayze-chan-X's birthday. Clearly I have no idea what the hell I'm doing, so don't kill me.
*insert Hayze-chan's usual disclaimer thing here*
"It's all your fault."
The words had haunted America for weeks, maybe months now, who knew? Everyone felt like they had to tell him. "It's all your fault." "Why can't you fix it?" "Don't you know how bad it is?"
He wanted to scream in all their faces. Of course I know how bad the stupid oil spill is! I'm not magic! I can't do anything about it, even if I wanted to!
Even Canada had done it, just the other day. "Hey, America! I've got something to tell you!" he shouted. He had just sighed, the familiar words pounding like hammers into his heart. But Canada had kept talking. "This oil spill thing- it's all your fault, America! Do you have any idea how bad this is? You already did one of your stupid oil things with that Exxon-Valdez thing! Why don't you do something about it?"
The words felt like yet another slap to America's face. For once he wasn't the hero, just the scapegoat.
Then the dreaded words came again.
"Hey, America. I have something to tell you." America slowly turned around to see England watching him. Even England was going to chew him out this way? It was the last straw.
"I can't do anything about the oil spill, all right?" America was almost shouting now. "So it happened off my coast! That doesn't mean it's my fault! I had nothing to do with it-"
He was cut off abruptly as England said, softly, "America, I love you."
And then the most beautiful words America had ever heard from England since he left all those years ago:
"It's not your fault."
