Hurried Exit
The evening was springlike and the perfect time to be with someone you hold very dear to your heart. So why was he feeling so much out in left field?
The answer was very obvious to Steve Keller, UC Berkeley's newest professor. He was not with that special someone who had his heart. Attending a party at the Dean's house, he had hoped that Jeannie Stone would have been able to attend with him, but previous plans had forced her to turn down his request.
As dinner was served the person next to him kept trying to converse with him but he found no interest or attraction for the brown eyed lady. Although he had spent a few minutes earlier speaking with her his mind was filled with thoughts of Jeannie and wishing she was there with him.
The dinner conversation consisted of various topics such as politics, teaching strategies and of course sports. Steve was asked about working homicide and his experiences. He answered politely but tried not to go into too much detail as civilians usually cannot handle the deeper details of what really does go on for a homicide detective.
After dinner was over he kept trying to find a polite time and way to extract himself from the party and from the admirer who seemed to be staying with him almost every step.
He finally was able to get off in a corner alone feeling choked by his own tie, he loosened it and muttered, "I've got to get out of here".
He saw his admirer coming his way and groaned softly and hurried to find the Dean and his wife and thanked them for the evening but explained he had to leave as he had to pick someone up from their job. It was a fib, Steve knew that but at the moment he did not care.
As he left and headed to Mike's he swore to himself from now on any party he had to attend Jeannie was going to be in attendance with him or he would make some excuse to not attend as he could not afford to be caught in too many hurried exits.
