Exactly like the summary says. The universe apparently doesn't want me to write, as everything that could get in my way of my writing did get in my way- and in those precious few chances where I had the time to write, I just didn't feel like it. This helped me get out of my slump.
I don't own Slayers, but Slayers owns me. I have almost no life besides it. Now I present- Boredom.
For the first time in nearly five centuries, Xellos, beast priest, dragon slayer and most powerful servant to Demon Lord Zelas, found himself with nothing to do.
"Boredom is a truly dreadful feeling." Xellos mused, closed eyes looking upwards at the light blue sky, where large, white clouds rolled along. They were peaceful now, but they promised rain somewhere along their journey. "It is one of the few emotions that demands. It demands attention- if you are bored, you barely notice anything else. It demands that you do something. It doesn't matter what that something is- even the most mundane of tasks will do. And there is a point when being bored can be dangerous.
"It keeps your guard down, and makes you susceptible to attacks. It can also make you susceptible to bad ideas- you'd do anything as long as it's something to do." He sighed, resting his head on his hand. "Any emotion can be dangerous when possessed in surplus, but personally, I view boredom as one of the most dangerous." He looked down at the being he was currently using as a chair. "Wouldn't you agree?"
The lesser demon nodded enthusiastically, which pleased the stronger monster. "Good!" Xellos' voice sounded overly cheerful, and there was a huge grin planted on his face. "It is always refreshing to meet someone with similar views. Always brings stimulating conversation." At this, the lesser demon tried to inform the beast priest in grunts and groans that he couldn't actually talk when someone was sitting on his chest. "Oh, did you say something?"
The lesser demon quickly shook his head no, and Xellos went back to cloud watching. The lesser demon sighed in relief, happy to have been spared another moment. While the stronger monster really wasn't supposed to kill fellow servants, that didn't mean that he couldn't. And there was no telling what a bored monster like him would do.
Boredom really is a dangerous emotion the lesser demon thought. He shuddered, earning himself a rather painful jab in the ribs by a monster who wanted his chair to sit still.
