This is just a one-shot of Remus remembering Sirius after he dies. Non-slash- R&R please. My first real serious(no pun intended) story.
Sirius,
For as long as I've known you you've always loved to laugh. Remember what James' mom used to say? She was the Healer on duty when you were born, and she said you were born laughing. Mrs. Potter always did like you, even though she hated your family. She'd tell James, Peter and I about how when all the other babies were crying in the world they were thrust into, you loved every minute of it. You looked around your new surrounding and giggled. I wasn't there Sirius, but I don't doubt it for one second.
You never did like your family. You'd rebel against anything they ever said. No wonder you were so happy to be Sorted into Gryffindor. Your parents never forgave you for it. Remember how the entire hall went silent? Nobody could believe that a Black would manage to get into Gryffindor. Not a single person clapped. I think it was the only time I've ever seen Dumbledore surprised. But you didn't mind. You thought it was hysterical. You were cracking up as you ran over to Gryffindor table.
Then I met you. You and James found me out in our second year. Remember when you cornered me after filling Peter in? I thought you'd hate me and said as much. James and Peter looked indifferent and I didn't know what to expect. You just chortled and said I was insane. While you were on the floor laughing, James and Peter told me they'd stick by me and that my "furry little problem" didn't matter to them. You said that too, after you'd calmed down a bit.
We were such good friends. The Mauderers. Throughout seven years I watched as you found humor in everything. The classes, teachers, but especially the pranks we pulled. You would snigger with James even after Hogwarts, reminiscing about the biggest and best pranks. Remember when we snuck into the kitchens and turned all the Slytherins food into manure? No one could ever prove we'd done it, but it was obvious it was us. That was the only time I saw you cry. They were tears of joy.
I saw the news that….that day. I was still recovering from the shock of Lily and James' deaths. I saw the replay of when it appeared you blew up the street, killing thirteen people. Killing Peter, our friend. I thought you a traitor, an insane Death Eater. I'm so sorry. The day I first heard it, I didn't believe it. But then I watched as you were taken away by Ministry officals. I was positive it was you then. Remember what you were doing? After losing it all, you were laughing harder than ever.
Then I got you back again. With half our quartet missing, things weren't quite the same. We were older, and sometime along the way you became mature. I never really noticed when. Remember when everyone was out of your house we threw a fit in the drawing room? We were whooping as we wreaked complete havoc in that room. Then when everybody else came back we acted as if nothing had happened, although we'd look at each other every so often and grin.
Then we got that call from the Order. Harry, your godson, was in trouble. You were supposed to stay home and fill in Dumbledore. You never were one for following orders. So you went. We came in fighting, and you managed to throw insults and threats as well as curses. Your cousin, Bellatrix was there. You were dueling with spells and words. You were laughing. Then Bellatrix threw a curse at you and you fell. That stupid veil took away my last friend. Your face was still full of mirth as you passed through it.
Sirius, you may be gone, but I'll never forget you. Every time I hear someone laugh I think of you, it seems. You were born, lived, and died with a huge smile. So Sirius Black, I have only one thing to say to you really.
I'll remember you laughing.
