Title: Hope is Powerful
Characters/Pairings: Characters: Merlin, Arthur, Uther. No pairings just a Merlin and Arthur friendship fic. Okay so if you squint you could possible see a hint of one-sided Merlin/Arthur.
Word count: 350
Summary: Merlin has hope that one day Arthur will change Camelot.
A/N: So I wrote this while I testing my handwriting skills when writing on a whiteboard, its harder than you think. Anyway, it's completely made up on the spot and crappy. Oh and this is one of the first fics I've written that isn't slash, oh the horror, spare me, spare me –wails like a ghost–. Anyway. Enjoy.
Merlin watched as Uther Pendragon wooed his people, subtly persuading them that the new law was exactly what they needed, Arthur standing beside him in silent support.
Merlin watched as the crowd smiled and cheered, saw their smiles fade and turn to sneers as the King turned his back.
He listened to the townsfolk disparage the king. Listened as they wondered, will Prince Arthur be like his father?
He frowned as he listened. He hoped, as did many, that Arthur was different. That Arthur would change Camelot.
Merlin didn't know and no amount of pestering would make the dragon talk and so Merlin was felt to hope.
To hope that Arthur wasn't blinded by his father's propaganda, he hoped that the prince would use his own mind, he hoped that Arthur would realise that magic wasn't evil but that it was those who wielded it that could be.
Merlin had tried to raise this issue once. He'd ended up mucking out the stables for a week. But he'd said he's piece, he'd compared magic to a sword, the user being corrupt did not make the weapon so.
And so Merlin was left to hope. To hope that he's message had been heard and was considered.
To hope that Arthur would one day change the views on magic, on status and that one day he could see people for what they were, human and worth it.
Merlin has hope.
He has hope of a brighter future. A future that all could share in no matter their difference, be it magic, race or status. A future free from persecution. A future of change. One where all are welcome.
Merlin knew that his dream was just that but he knew that it would become reality. One day. He would see it come to pass, with Arthur leading the way.
One day in the future Merlin wouldn't need to hope because Arthur will have achieved his dream.
But for now he holds onto his hope, his dream, and waits for that not to distant day when it will be fulfilled.
