Miserable was the only word Ellie Nash could think of to describe today. Ash was home sick, Marco was too busy with Dylan to even notice she existed, her teachers were piling on the homework, and to top it all off, Paige and her little followers were only sitting ONE table away from her. She shuddered as she listened to some of their pointless conversation:

"Haze we should totally hit the mall after school, I saw a crop top there that would be totally killer on you!"

"I'm so there!"

"Does it say BIMBO on it?" Ellie quietly asked no one in particular. She laughed at her own joke and went back to eavesdropping. A few minutes later she got up and walked away, she didn't feel like listening to Paige gossip any longer, so she went inside and walked down the empty hall towards her locker. Just as she turned the corner, she ran smack into J.T. Yorke.

"Watch where you're going!"

"Uh sorry.Ellie right?"

"Yeah.you're Toby's friend aren't you?"

"Yeah.kind of.I'm J.T."

"Well J.T., I have to go to my locker, shouldn't you be sucking up to Paige or something?"

"Or something." He said with a smirk as he walked away.

Ellie rolled her eyes and walked to her locker, she really didn't need anything in her locker, but she wanted to be alone, and the hallways were always empty during lunch hour. Plus, she didn't have to listen to Paige and her little crew giggling like hyenas. When she reached her locker, she pulled her CD player out of her bag and slid down against the cold metal. She pressed "play" and her ears were filled with the sound of Linkin Park, she leaned her head back against the cold locker and closed her eyes...

"El!"

Ellie took off her headphones and looked up, suddenly the quiet hallway was crowded and loud and Marco was hovering over her.

"I guess I fell asleep."

"Good thing I was here to wake you up," Marco laughed.

Ellie stood up and brushed herself off.

"Why are you so tired El?"

"I don't really know." she lied.

She knew exactly why she was tired.she hadn't had a goodnight's sleep since her dad left. Dealing with her mom's drinking problem as well as worrying about her dad and her own life made sleep near impossible. Other than Ashley, no one really knew about her "situation," and Ellie wanted to keep it that way. She hated having people feel sorry for her, so she didn't talk about her problems much.

"El, snap out of it!"

"Huh? Oh sorry"

"Are you sure you're ok?"

"Yeah.I'm fine Marco."

Ellie shoved her CD player into her bag and flipped her long, red braids over her shoulders as she followed Marco down the hall.

Ellie sat impatiently through the rest of her classes, not wanting to be in school, but not wanting to go home either, she planned on stopping over at Ash's house after school to see how she was feeling.
