She never thought she'd hear those words, not from his mouth. Not from him. He wasn't this kind of guy. He would never do that to her. So, why was he saying all this?
"I'm sorry, Ginny," he said, his eyes watery as he stood in front of her doorway. "Please understand."
Ginny shook her head, her body beginning to shake. Everything in her world was fading. She no longer noticed her surroundings. There was nothing. Her voice left her body hysterically, not something she had intended, as sobs began to overtake her.
"Please don't," she said, crying. "Please don't do this, Harry, please."
He shook his head, his jaw clenched. He grabbed her hand. "I need this, Ginny, please understand. I can't take this anymore. My whole life was Voldemort. Everything was about the war. I feel so lost. I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I can't stop feeling stressed. It's driving me insane. I wake up everyday feeling like I'm dying, and I can't take it anymore. I don't know who I am anymore. Please, I just need a break."
Her whole world was crashing, suddenly, all around her. She felt the breath leave her body. Her chest felt tight, her heart beating fast in her chest as more sobs overtook her small body.
"Please," she begged. "I'll do anything, Harry, just don't break up with me, please. I'll fix this. I'll give you more space. Just please don't break up with me."
He pulled her body to his as he began to cry himself. "I can't. I just can't, Ginny. I have to do this. It's for us, please believe me. This is what I need to be okay. I can't take anything anymore. I need to figure some things out. It's only a break, just to get my head straight. I need you to understand. I still love you. I still want to be with you someday. I just can't do it right now."
Everything stopped. She pulled away from him, her eyes swollen and puffy and her cheeks stained with tears. "Okay," she cried. "Just go - please."
He stared at her. "I still want to talk. I want to be with you, Ginny. Once I get my shit together, I want to be with you. This is for us. I really hope you understand. I still love you."
She sobbed harder at this, but nodded.
He stepped towards her and kissed her gently on the forehead. "I'll owl you tomorrow, I promise. I love you, Ginny."
"I love you, too," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
He wiped his eyes and forced a smile. "I'm going to go."
She nodded again, and with that, he was gone. She sat down on the couch, empty. She didn't know what to think or how to feel.
Her heart was broken. And she didn't know what to do. Everything felt like it was falling apart, like she was falling apart. The guy she loved more than anything had left her, and she didn't know if he'd ever come back.
She was trembling and crying as she made her way to the fireplace. In a whirl of floopowder, she was gone.
A/N - I'm a little drunk and wanted to write this, because this exact thing happened to me just last night. My boyfriend and I are on a break so he can get his life together, and I'm so scared he'll never come back to me. I'm just heartbroken and needed to write.
