Beck came and sat down next to Jade putting an arm around her.

"Cat told me you had a rough day," he said, "are you alright?"

"I'll be fine," she said, "It's just a lot is going on in my life right now"

"I know"

"I don't think you do," Jade said, "I don't think I even know. The argument we had yesterday… it really bothered me. I don't know why. I shouldn't have let it upset me but it's been on my mind since it happened"

"Jade I'm sorry," he said, "I didn't realize it would upset you. I know you think sometimes I'm… well a little…um-"

"I wasn't mad at you," she said, "I was just upset. Beck I didn't tell you this but there's been a lot of things happening in my life. My sister, Crystal died in a fire 10 years ago yesterday. My cat died last night in her sleep. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last week. It just… I guess I was feeling… a little bit overwhelmed"

"A little overwhelmed," Beck said, "and breast cancer? Jade when the hell did this happen and why didn't you tell me?"

His tone wasn't angry. It was gentle. It was sad. He regretted arguing with her yesterday. She was probably on chemo or something and that was what made her so moody.

"I was in shock," Jade said, "I was still absorbing the information. They caught it on time so I have a 98% chance of surviving but I'm going to have to have surgery. They're going to have to cut off my breast"

"Who cares," Beck said, "a breast is just a breast. YOU are more than your breast"

"But will you love me when I'm not whole," she asked

"Not whole? You think because you're missing a breast that makes you not whole?"

"Well yeah. Doesn't it?"

"Jade do you know when I first fell in love with you," Beck asked

"When," she asked

"The day I met you I saw you helping a little girl who had fallen down and cut her knee. You were so gentle and so caring. As I got to know you I saw your dark side and I loved it. You were so adventurous. You never hesitated to tell it like it is. There were times you made me crazy and that just made me love you all the more. There were times I thought that you were crazy and that just made me hold on tighter. You listened to me. You trusted me. You showed me that you had class even when you were pissed off. THAT is what makes you whole. That is what makes you Jade. It doesn't matter if you have a breast or not"
