"Izuku..what did you do?"
Izuku just held up his arms and gave an optimistically cheesey grin at his husband, Shoto.
"Izuku, this isn't a dog, you can't just do something like this without asking me first." And with that, Shoto left Izuku standing in the door way entrance alone. He hadn't been yelling or angry, his voice sounded more hurt and withdrawn than that.
Izuku let himself inside the apartment. He walked over and sat down on the couch, being careful to lower himself. "It's ok, he's a really nice man." Izuku said to the baby in his arms. He unswaddled the baby, who had been guessed at being 2 months, and laid him across his chest. The baby made a sigh of contentment. Izuku rubbed his back and said, "Everything will work out from here.. I promise."
The neighboring town had a small area totally destroyed by villains, and this infant was the only one found alive in the rubble. Izuku had asked to care for him tonight.*
Izuku continued to soothe the baby until his breathing evened out and he was sure he was sleeping. He swaddled him back up, laid him gently on the couch, and went off to find Shoto.
He didn't have to look long; Shoto was sitting on their bed, legs crossed, looking at something on his phone. Izuku tapped his knuckles on the back of the door twice, while walking into the room. Shoto tried his hardest to avoid looking at Izuku, but he came and sat directly beside him. As the bed sunk down, Shoto threw his phone over his shoulder and cut his eyes away to the corner of the room.
"Shoto, it's ok. I should have mentioned it first, but I only asked if we could keep him here until they found a permanent home for him. His name is Yuta."
"Oh.. really?" Shoto turned to make eye contact with Izuku.
Izuku nodded. "Yes, really. I'd never make that kind of decision without talking to you first. But you know," Izuku put his hand on Shoto's cheek, "I think you'd make a really great dad." Shoto melted into Izuku's hand.
"How can you say that?"
Izuku gave Shoto a small kiss on the forehead.
"Let me tell you something, Shoto. You already know this, but you are not your parents. Your dad is an asshole. He always was, and that probably isn't going to change. I know you and your mom have a good relationship now, but when you were a kid, she was just the shell of the person she used to be. The way you grew up is unforgivable, but you haven't been defined by that." Izuku paused as he felt tears falling down his arm. "The Shoto I know is kind, caring, intelligent, forgiving, and always willing to put himself last for anyone who needs help. The Shoto I know would be an amazing dad."
Izuku lowered the palm supporting Shoto's head, and let him lay it in his lap instead. He spent a few minutes running his fingers through his hair. It was thick, but not coarse. His fingers slid through easily, and the locks fell wildly around his ears.
Yuta made a small noise in the living room. Izuku started to get off the bed, but Shoto grabbed the tail of his shirt.
"Let's go together." He said and wiped the tears from under his eyes.
Short little head cannons/ foot notes??*
Izuku and Shoto wind up keeping Yuta.
Everyone, excluding Shoto's dad, is extremely excited for baby Yuta.
Shoto takes the baby to visit his mom every weekend, but he and Izuku are secretly hunting for a bigger house so they can ask her to move in with them. (This would be an exciting fanfic!!!!)
Izuku's mom sews Yuta super cute baby clothes.
