Tears flow down his cheeks, neatly outlining one edge of his tattoo. "I really didn't want to hurt them," Jacuzzi says.
Nice is gripping the matchbook tight enough that the corners dig into her palm. "I know," she says.
"I'm not crying." His eyes shine wet in the glow of the streetlight.
She's trembling as she takes out a cigarette, and the disquieting cocktail of adrenaline and relief coursing through her veins nearly makes her drop it. "I know you're not." The head of the first match goes flying as she strikes it with far more force than necessary.
"Nice, you're shaking," he says softly. Jacuzzi lays one hand on her wrist, as if he's drinking the tremors in, and takes the matchbook from her with the other. He lights her up, and Nice takes a long, deep drag, letting her shivers subside. "So are you," she retorts.
"Your glasses," Jacuzzi says, and he slides the crooked, dirty frames from her face to clean them on his sleeve. Nice doesn't give him the chance. She grabs Jacuzzi by the lapels and kisses him fiercely, and the world stands still.
"Don't worry me like that ever again," she growls when she pulls away, and Jacuzzi laughs, a hoarse little noise of pure satisfaction, and kisses her back.
