Music Classes
Dumbledore had for some reason insisted that every student participated in the new music classes and of course Slytherin and Gryffindor were placed in the music class together as always.
It really was a wonder that no fights or duels had broken out yet.
They had started with a bit of theory before moving on to learning to play the muggle instruments before moving onto their magical instrument counterparts. The teacher had said that it was safer that way and once they could control the magic in the music, they could move on to the magical instruments.
Hermione, of course, had gone to the library to research everything she could find about musical instruments with magic but that had not helped her much when it came to the practical aspects of playing the music.
During the first lesson Malfoy had said snidely, "We're wizards, why do we have muggle toys?"
"Because if we don't understand how to control the music, we will be controlled by it," Hermione admonished.
"No one asked you mudblood."
"Pureblood snot," Ron muttered under his breath in reply.
The teacher had walked up to Malfoy and given him a magical instrument before instructing him into another room off to the side then told him to start playing. He had reluctantly complied with her wishes.
He had begun to visibly tense as the discord in the music caused him to feel stress despite the fact that he was the one playing the instrument.
Point proven, she had let him out then picked up one of the trumpets and playing a soothing melody that relaxed them.
That lesson had left a lasting impression on them and they had faced no other problems during their lessons.
They had been told that they would have to be able to charm a dog using only music to continue learning.
The very idea seemed daunting but their growing interest in the subject caused them to practice as much as possible to compete the seemingly impossible task.
