"Fili?" Kili stood on his tiptoes, still barely tall enough to see on top of Fili's desk.

"Yes?" Fili said dismissively. His little brother was always pestering him with questions.

"Why's the sky blue?" Kili tilted his head so he could see Fili's face. His dark eyes sparkled. Of course, despite his age and the fact that not a lot had been discovered about the sky yet, Fili knew a little about these sciences. At this time, Kili was only four, making Fili nine. And since Fili was the older brother, he liked playing tricks on Kili.

"Cotton candy," Fili didn't even look at his brother. Kili seemed to ponder this for a minute.

"No thanks. I already had candy today, and Momma doesn't like it when I have too much," Kili finally said. Fili then looked at Kili.

"No, no. The sky's made out of cotton candy. The blue kind. And the clouds are made out of whipped cream, and the sun's made out of," Fili paused, contemplating what he would say next. "A marshmallow ice cream sundae," he finally spat out. Kili's eyes widened. He then started asking questions like, 'What's rain made out of then?' and comments such as, 'I'm gonna go to the sky one day, Fee!'

They heard a door shut, then a deep voice. Kili and Fili bolted out of their room.

"Uncle Torn!" Kili shouted holding up his hands so that Thorin could pick him up.

"Has your mother made supper yet?" Thorin asked. He walked into the kitchen, spotting a variety of meats laid out on the table. Dís was putting that last fork onto the table.

"Come and eat before it becomes cold!" Dís smiled. Her two sons were angels. Some of the time. When they weren't hitting each other or making a mess.
_

"So, what did you lads do today?" Thorin asked, still chewing. Dís scowled, and kicked him from under the table. He swallowed, then continued. "Anything interesting?"

"Fili taught me about stuff," Kili offered. Thorin and Dís looked up, both remembering when Fili had bent the truth when teaching things to his younger brother before.

"Like what?" Dís asked suspiciously.

"He told me that the sky was made out of cotton candy!" As Kili told them this and about the rest of his new found knowledge, Fili shrunk is in seat. When Thorin told Kili the truth, he refused to believe it.

"No! Fee would never lie to me!" Kili said, crossing his arms.

"Actually Kili, the sky, well it isn't made if cotton candy," Fili confessed, and shrunk deeper into his seat. Kili's faced went blank, then it turned to a smile.

"I knew that. I was just pretending," Kili said.

"Were you?" Fili asked, cocking an eyebrow. Kili nodded.

"I just wanted to get you back for all those tricks you've played on me. And now Uncle Torn and Mama know that you lied to me! And that's mean. You shouldn't lie," Kili smiled. The truth is, Kili had believed Fili at first, but when he said that the sun was made out of a marshmallow ice cream sundae, he became skeptical. Ice cream is cold, and the sun is hot. Even he was smart enough to figure that out.

Fili didn't get in a large amount of trouble, but he was told that he shouldn't lie. But since Fili was the older brother, he liked playing tricks on Kili. And this would never change.
