Be Seeing You
Uzumaki Naruto/Uchiha Sasuke

Theme: (29) 'my bones call to you' for livejournal community lemonaftertaste
Notes: This is my attempt at writing from a second person point of view.

You stand before me, as you have done many hundred times before. Only now, there is a look of weariness that paints your face. Bags and lines under your eyes; skin no longer firm, now sliding down your forehead; cheeks and down underneath the collar of your shirt; the white hair that tops your head—your youth has escaped you. All but your eyes, your eyes look at me with the same brilliant hue of blue from the first day we met.

Now they close, your eyes close and there is that sudden loss of light as you stand perfectly still despite the quivering of your bones. 'How do you still manage to do this to me,' you whisper softly to the sky as your head tilts higher. Then a smile plays across your lips—the image of me, in my youthfulness and life fills your mind. 'Sasuke,' you say, as you have day after day. Your eyes open slowly to reveal the gentle tears that form at the eyes of your bold blues and slowly, you turn to look at the small shrine you have built at the Uchiha compound—

—you turn to look at me, and the soft upturn of your lips become that all too familiar grin. 'I know you've been waiting for me, after all these years. I know you've been watching as I've become a shinobi, hokage and man even you would approve of—I know you've been watching all this time.' Your wrinkled hands reach into your shirt and slowly pull out a pair of dog tags—that have hung around your neck since the day I left—and lift the gently over your head.

The wooden cane that had been supporting your weight falls to the floor with a thud as you hobble towards where I lie. As you let the tags slip from your grip the words you have been waiting for years to say aloud finally escape past your lips.

'I'll be seeing you soon.'

Then after a moment, you turn and with slight difficulty, make your way, kicking at the walking stick as you leave. The cacophony of pain and despair meet your ears once again as you walk away. Away from the place where I lie and away from the two dog tags you have left behind, with the names Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Naruto graved deeply into the metal.

You walk away into battle and show the people of Konoha the reason you had been chosen as the rokudaime for the last time.
