Author's Notes: I don't usually write Aeris/Sephiroth fiction, but the idea just sorta hit me over the head. Before you read or review keep in mind that I don't care if you don't like Aeris (or Aerith, however you want to spell it) and I don't care if you don't like this couple. If you're going to read it, please read it for its quality as a piece of prose, not just because you feel like flaming an Aeris fan (who is also a Tifa fan btw). If its being about Aeris bothers you to the point you can't appreciate it, feel free to read something else. There's lots of fanfiction on this site. Thanks for reading my rambling, on the to fic.

Aeris's Decision
by dilly

I kneel, waiting for you.

I thought I loved the other, but it was those traits that made him so like you. When I thought I was looking into his eyes, I was looking into yours.

They say that I am the only one that can defeat you. I don't know if that's true. Light does not destroy the Dark. They make love to one another continuously. When Light is alone, it is painfully bright. It looses all aesthetic beauty. When Dark is alone, it is blackness unending. There is nothing to define it as darkness. Burn a candle in a dark room and it becomes magical. Mystical. Beautiful. Just as Dark is nothing without Light, Good is nothing without Evil.

I wonder if you are completely evil. I wonder if I'm completely good.

I am betraying my friends, but they will find strength in my passing. Had I left them for you, they would have been devastated and without purpose. I will not have part in their destruction. I will not have part in your murder.

I will not.

No matter what it costs me.

So, I kneel, waiting for you.

Death doesn't frighten me as much the idea of living without you. As much as seeing you killed.

You descend upon me as they approach. You penetrate me. So like the act we never took part in with one another or anyone else. We will both die with that purity for we have promised each other that.

I love you. And I know that you love me, even as I fall from your blade to the cold ground.

I will leave the others with the thought that I still loved them.

But I will spend eternity dreaming of you.
