Mamma Knows Best
"And is there a man on the scene yet?"
"No mum there isn't." Sandra said, she hated this but her mum was there to stay for a while.
"Well how come you're late home? Let me guess work?"
"I went for a drink with the boys actually."
"Why don't you let me see them? Introduce me properly to them?"
"Well you know Jack and you wouldn't like Gerry and Brian is a bit eccentric for you."
"Why wouldn't I like Gerry?"
"He's everything you hate in a man, he's womanising and old school in his ways. He has three ex wife's and 4 children and he treats them all brilliantly and he's certainly changed since UCOS started. He used to annoy the hell out of me with prehistoric views of women and pet names but he seems to finally have grown up."
"You like him Sandra." Grace smiled.
"I what?!" Sandra turned shocked.
"You like him."
"Yeah he's my friend."
"No, more than that."
"How'd you figure that out?"
"You couldn't talk about him with out smiling and there was a loving edge to your voice that isn't there when you talk to or about anyone else."
"Have you taken your medication?"
"Yes I have, now stop dodging the conversation."
"I'm not, I was wondering if that's what was making you mad."
"I'm not mad. You know I'm right."
"I'm off to bed, we have a big case on just now and I have a meeting first thing. Night mum."
"Night Sandra." Grace said as she went scouting around for Sandra's phone, knowing she wasn't thinking enough to actually go put it on charge and therefore found it laying by the sofa. When she eventually figured out how to work the phone, she found Gerry's name but she'd have to keep quiet in doing this because Sandra was not a deep sleeper and Grace had no clue how to text.
"Sandra? Are you okay?"
"Gerry, it's Grace, Sandra's mum."
"Hello Mrs Pullman, is Sandra okay?"
"Yeah she's fine, she wouldn't tell me even if she wasn't though. Do you love Sandra?" Grace asked bluntly, she wasn't one to tiptoe around issues.
"Erm..."
"She likes you but she won't admit it. I need you to take her out and make her happy."
"She can't like me, she'd never date someone like me."
"Well Sandra doesn't date to the best of my knowledge, she just sleeps around."
"She doesn't sleep around." Gerry replied fiercely.
"And there's the instinctive protective edge she has for you too. I'm not asking you to marry her, just take her out."
"Okay." Gerry sighed giving up as Grace hung up.
"Mum, who are you talking to?" Sandra asked, concerned that her mum had actually lost it.
"The tv, you know how I get with these murder mystery's."
"Okay then."
