Happy Valentine's Day!!! And to all of you non-comformists, know I resisted the urge to be all pink and girly and wore blue today! So I hope your day is full of love in the form of Fiyeraba fluff(or any kind of fluff, but this is Fiyeraba. SO!!) Read, and send a little love my way- if you know what I mean.
And Mel, I SO didn't do anything dumb when I first posted this.
"Miss Elphie?"
A pause.
"Miss Elphaba, are you listening to me?"
Another silent moment.
"Elphaba, can you even hear me? Hey? Guess what! Oz is susposed to errupt into a mess of pink frogs at exactly half past eight and-"
"Master Fiyero, it wasn't that I couldn't hear you. You confuse not responding with not giving a damn." Elphaba Thropp was suddenly animated as she sat at her desk in the middle of the history classroom.
"But Elphie-" Really, he was pleased to get any reaction out of her. He'd been begining to think a doll had been put in her place.
"And really please don't call me that. I only let Galinda call me that because she insists, and telling her no is like telling an excited toy poodle no. It doesn't work."
He held his hands up to protest. "Alright, Elphaba-" He paused and she glared at him. "-I hope I'm allowed to call you by your first name. Anyway, I wanted to ask you for help."
"Really, it's the middle of class. The professor looks ready to kill us. Shut. Up." She didn't look at him, but stared at her notes in front of her. She hadn't missed a beat.
"Please? If you'll just help me, I will shut up for the rest of class." He gave her his best look-at-me-aren't-I-Good-Looking smile.
She put her pencil down. "Alright, alright, mercy. What do you want?"
"It's Valentine's Day tomorrow-"
She rolled her eyes. "You mean the stupid holiday from the land the Wizard was born in where you suddenly have to be completely in love with your significant other and shower them with extravagent gifts?"
He winced, visibly shot down. "Um. Yes. Anyway, I still haven't gotten anything for Galinda yet."
She raised an eyebrow. "Fiyero, the holiday is tomorrow, and you still don't know what to get your girlfriend?"
"Have you tried shopping for her?" He was more than frustrated by now.
"Three words. Pink and Shiny."
He fought the urge to roll his eyes. "Elphie- Elphaba, Elphaba I know, I'm sorry... I'm serious. Do you have any idea what to get her?"
"Why should I know what to get her? She's your girlfriend, not mine. Besides, I've never gotten a Valentine before. Ask someone who would know what she's expecting."
He really was surprised. "You've never gotten a Valentine?"
"That's not the point!" She groaned and pushed a stray piece of hair out of her face. "Just... get Galinda something that shows you care about her. Something that took a little bit of thought. Something that came from the heart."
He smiled at her. "Thank you. I'll keep what you said in mind."
The next day, after the girl's returned from their sorcery lesson, both had something unusual sitting on their bed. Galinda's held a large bouquet of pink flowers and reservations to an expensive restauraunt. Elphaba's held a single red rose beside a white envelope with her name written on it neatly with black ink.
While Galinda was distracted over her fancy- yet fitting- gifts, Elphaba opened the envelope.
Miss Elphaba,
Everyday should celebrate love, and we don't think of the ones we care about often enough. This rose isn't really enough, you deserve more, however it made me think of you. Pretty, vibrant, strong, and more than a few prickles. Though I suspose it wouldn't be as beautiful without the thorns.
Love,
Your Secret Admirer
Funny. Elphaba didn't think her admirer was so secret. She smiled and put the rose in a vase. Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't so bad afterall.
