Language Of Flowers
By SMYGO4EVA
Roses are red, violets are blue, hearts become one and so do you? It was pretty juvenile at best, but it was cute too, Ryou thought. To think it related to Valentine's Day in anyway was surreal enough already. He remembered that it was a holiday that celebrated how people expressed to family, friends and loved ones on that special day. Since it was the day of St. Valentine, he knew quite well on there was also White Day.
He saw that classmates would shower their boyfriends and girlfriends with flowers, gifts and set romantic dates. Ryou knew that Téa loved the holiday; he loved it too, but he didn't want it to be too cliché. He wanted her to be happy with him even if he didn't give her flowers and expensive jewelry. He wanted her to be happy and she wanted him to be happy.
Ryou suddenly found himself outside of the school, just like he would be when he would meet up with Téa. He hid the rose he kept behind his back, not very subtle, but it did well. He knew Yugi sent her adorable cards and he knew that Yami would give Serenity lovely roses. Roses were a symbol of affection, eternally and platonically.
It was then Ryou saw someone in the corner of the eye. Through the blinding winds of February, he saw that the girl was so beautiful; love itself in its epitomized form. Her short brunette hair twirled its strands along her fingers and cerulean eyes wandered aimlessly in the crowd. She looked up and caught the silver-haired boy's eye.
Téa Gardener, the very girl Ryou Bakura thought about.
"Téa."
She looked up, and smiled sweetly. "Ryou, there you are. I was looking for you."
The boy blushed a little, surprised. "You were looking for me?"
"Yeah. I thought I saw you, but the crowd sort of got in the way." She giggled slightly, looking away from him for a moment, but she set herself in his eyes, as if she expected something.
Ryou stepped back a little, caught off-guard by the eye contact, and he held up the rose in front of the brunette. "For you."
Téa blinked and looked straight at him. "A rose?"
"For you, Téa. I know it's a little forward, but it is Valentine's Day after all. Then, a month from now, it will be White Day, on March 14. I…I've loved you for a while, and I've always wondered if you will ever feel the same for me. If you don't want it, I understand.."
Ryou suddenly found Téa flung in his arms and she kissed him – on the lips. The love was reciprocated.
The kiss was soft, sweet and filled with undying warmth and affection.
When they finally broke away, slowly at first, Téa cupped her hand on Ryou's porcelain face. "I love you, Ryou." She said at last.
Ryou blinked, blushed a little more, and smiled beautifully. "I love you too, Téa."
Téa took a look at the rose and twirled between her fingers. "So…this was for me all along?"
Ryou laughed and held her hand in his. "Of course. The rose symbolizes great love and undying happiness. That's what I feel about you, and I'll always cherish your kindness."
Téa smiled and they leaned in to kiss each other once again, through the language of flowers and affection.
A/N: I listened to the songs "Kaze" by Fumiko Orikasa and "This Light I See" by Romi Paku while writing this. Happy Valentine's Day!
