Feathers of Fate:

It came down to this...Alucard's moment of truth. He'd been chasing
this creature for what felt like hours, slashing through whatever foolish
thing that got in the way of him and his pursuit. There was nothing in
Dracula's castle nor it's inverted counterpart that he could not kill...save
one. If he could manage to defeat this loathsome creature...then no doubt
he would be able to defeat Dracula....
...If only he could catch it!
"GET BACK HERE YOU DAMNED DODO!!!" The Vampire Prince yelled, slashing at
the feathered fiend once more. He recieved an indignant squawk and a fluff
of feathers in his face for his effort. He stumbled slightly then
immediately leapt back into pursuit of the bird, using every vampiric power
in the book to keep up with it.
An axe wielding knight stepped in front of him at a crucial moment and threw
a large axe at his head and Alucard gave an enraged snarl before cutting both
the incoming axe as well as the knight in half yelling, "OUT OF MY WAY!" Over
his shoulder before continuing to chase the dodo with renewed vigor. "GET
BACK HERE I SAY!!!"
He chased the dodo for a full day and a half using every sword and subweapon
he owned in an attempt to kill the elusive animal. Finally he had it
cornered and neither he nor the bird could run or flap any further.
"So...(pant)...I finally...(wheeze)...have you...(gasp)...bedamned fowl of
Satan!" He gasped, giving a final breathless laugh of victory while the dodo
looked at him pitifully. "It's...(pant, pant)...NO use, evil avian...!
(gasp)I cannot be...charmed...by the likes...of YOU!"
The dodo just kept looking at him.
"Stop looking at me that way!" Alucard yelled righteously. "I mean to kill
you and there's nothing you can do about it!" He added certainly, raising
his sword in the bird's direction.
The dodo's pathetic look deepened and it gave a small squeak as it shuffled
back a few steps.
"DON'T MOVE!" Alucard commanded. "I'll chase you no more! PREPARE TO D--"
He suddenly cut off when the dodo gave him a look so pathetic it was painful,
then muttered, "oh dammit." before lowering the sword to his side. "I can't
do it." He lifted a hand to massage the bridge of his nose wearily. "My
heart is weak yet. I'm not ready to face father."
Suddenly there was a horrid squawking noise and the flightless dodo clamped
it's beak around Alucard's ankle, flapping it's wings incessantly. Alucard
gave a yell more of surprise than pain when he felt the bird's serrated beak
ceise his ankel, but surprise was quickly overridden by anger. "YOU HAD
YOUR CHANCE, BIRD! NOW HERE IS THE DEATH YOU SO RIGHTLY DESERVE!!" He
bellowed, lifting his foot back to kick the dodo into a wall with a dull
splatting sound.
For a moment he stared at the feathered mess then stood, grinning all the
while. "Beware, my father! By this bird's feathers...YOU PERISH TONIGHT!!"
