He used to be a star

someone who could shine

someone who cared

someone who loved

and she

[ h a t e d ]

what he'd become

because she knew

that he wasn't

really

like that

&& there was a time when they

loved

each other

didn't they?

But now it was all

the Dark Lord this

or the Dark Lord that

as if he'd married the Dark Lord

not her

&& he had been the one who'd said

he didn't want to be like those

who bent to the will of others

because he was

strong

proud

independent

but s t i l l

he became what he

said

he didn't want to be.

&& as if all of that wasn't enough

he dragged Draco into this

W A R.

he sent his own s o n

knowing Draco wouldn't

S U R V I V E

&& that had made her realize

maybe he wasn't so perfect

as she'd thought he was

and she couldn't be his

s a v i o u r,

not when he didn't want to be saved

he wanted this

he deserved this

because of what he'd

C O N D E M N E D

their son to

and she'd be

d a m n e d

if they all expected her to just

sit tight

enjoy the show

not do anything

...

so she does what she has to

and turns traitor

at the cost of her life

because

deep down

she knows she

[ l o v e s ]

him still

and the life of their son is

the most

I M P O R T A N T

so she feels for the

heartbeat

and says

harry potter

is

D E A D

( just like her own heart is

because she knows there's no hope

even after it all )

Written for LittleMissWesley's Freeverse Song Challenge.

The song given to me was:

Circle The Drain by Katy Perry

I just loosely based this freeverse on the meaning of someone having changed to become someone they and the person they loved hated.

And I know, I know, that Narcissa always loved Lucius, and Lucius always loved Narcissa, but when you're at war and the person with the most power in the world was in your house, you tend to lose your sanity a little. You jump to conclusions and blame quickly, and this is Narcissa at the height of her paranoia. She thinks this is all Lucius' fault, and she's frightened for her son.

That's all there is to it.
