Sea Turtles
"MAN OVERBOARD!"
"Again?!"
The rest of the crew watched as their first mate jumped into the water to fish out their drowning captain. It wasn't an easy life being a pirate, and it didn't help that their captain had eaten a cursed fruit that allowed him to stretch his body like rubber, but took away his ability to swim. It was pretty useful in a fight, not so much when they were surrounded by water.
Nami sighed as she watched Luffy and Zoro being pulled up by Sanji, Franky and Chopper.
"What was it this time?" She asked Robin.
"Captain said that he saw a giant sea turtle, and tried to catch it. But, it pulled him overboard."
The navigator stared at her friend. "A sea turtle?"
"That's what he said."
"Why?"
"Captain mentioned something about soup."
When Luffy was pulled back onto the boat they saw that he was still holding on to the sea turtle, his rubber arm wrapped all the way around it. Zoro coughed and swore. "I tried to get the idiot to let go, but he wouldn't. Geez, I never realized turtles could get so heavy."
It was a fairly large turtle, as far as turtles go, but compared to other creatures they'd run into while sailing the grand line, the mysterious band of ocean that encircled the world and where the laws of nature no longer applied, it was fairly puny. Minus Luffy it would make enough soup to feed the crew for a month. With the captain they would be lucky to even get any of it tonight.
"Oh no!" Chopper yelled. "He's swallowed too much water!"
Everyone's attention focused back on their captain, whose chest was being pumped by Chopper, trying to get the water out of his lungs.
"Here," said Sanji. "Let me try." And with that he started stomping on the Luffy's chest, spouts of water spewing out of his mouth with each impact.
"O..o..oi! Stop that! You'll break his ribs!"
"Don't worry," Nami said. "It's kind of hard to break rubber."
Finally Luffy came to. "Did I catch the turtle?" He asked. His answer was being hit in the head by his navigator with a rolled up map.
"You idiot," she said. "Next time we're not bothering to pull you out."
"That's right, then I'll have to be captain," said Ussopp.
Everyone stared at him.
"What? I already called dibs."
At the next port they bought a chain, and a dog collar, with which Luffy found himself attached to the mast whenever they were out at sea.
And the turtle barely made it past the first five minutes of dinner.
Later.
"LUFFY I LOVE YOU," said Nami.
There, now it's a LuNa.
A/N: Oddly enough this was actually an assignment for my writing class. We werer meant to write a story centered in the world of one of our favorite stories. Fanfiction at the college level. Go figure.
