An Elf walked by just the other day
In the usual Elven way
Taking those light Elven steps, he said, "Have a good
day."
I smiled at him and said, "That's okay."
And he was holding a bow and smiling
looking at me with that light-ridden Elvish grin
He'd say, "I miss my home, Mirkwood.
You know I miss Mirkwood."
And the Elves in the Forest and in Rivendell
Little Hobbit stout and King on the throne
"When you going back, Elf?" "I don't know when,
But I'll be happier then.
You know I'll be happier then."
My friend Frodo passed just the other day
Sam said, "Mr. Frodo, I miss you today."
Gandalf and Legolas, and Aragorn all gathered round,
their hearts all torn.
"He was a brave hobbit," Legolas said, "very brave."
And he walked away, his smile dimmed
Said, "I want to go to Mirkwood.
I really miss Mirkwood."

"When you going back, Elf?" "I don't know when,

Well, the Elf went to Rivendell just the other day
So much happier I just had to say
"Legolas, I'm glad you're happy. Can you talk for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, is to get back to Mirkwood.
See you later. Maybe I'll see you there."

But we'll talk then.

I've not seen the Elf for a long time and my friend Sam
has passed away
I talked to him in Bree the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you again, I need some comfort."
He said, "I'd love to, Merry, if I had the time."
You see, being King of Mirkwood's a hassle, and I have
papers to do
But it's sure nice talking to you, Merry,
It's sure nice talking to you."
As I left the inn, it occured to me,
He'd gotten a little sadder, just like me.
My friend was sad like me.
