Cid's Nightmare

I was alone in the airship, flying over Spira. Spira at night is a really amazing sight, but the scenery gradually changed, I was flying over a city, really tall buildings and roads and really strange looking devices on the roads, they seemed to be powered by something other than chocobos. This was clearly a very technologically advanced city, all I could think of was how much I wanted to find out how everything worked, to push every button and flip every switch and take everything apart until I knew everything there is to know about everything. I kept flying, however, out of the city, I flew over other towns and countrysides and forests until I finally landed in front of a building. It was a large building with a fence around it and a sign that said 'Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant'.

I walked in through the open gate and entered the building. There was a long hallway filled with doors and at the end of the hallway there was a pair of double doors with a sign that said 'Control Room'. I went into the control room, not expecting to see much, but I was startled to find a room full of buttons and switches. In the corner there were two people arguing in a foreign language. I looked around the room, inspecting a single row of switches with a small, seemingly insignificant, flashing red light. As I looked around the room, I saw that there were absolutely no other red lights on in the entire room. That tiny flashing light scared the hell out of me. I stared at it, red, pulsating, and small; that light seemed to be the scariest thing in the world, I must have been staring at it for ten minutes at least. I leaned in to get a closer look, suddenly there was a blinding flash and I felt a wave of heat and then…nothing.

I was gone, vaporized, but…how was I thinking that? Suddenly I was back in the airship, hovering over the building. There was the flash and the heat and I was dead again. Suddenly, I was farther away; looking at the building from a distance. There was the flash, and the building was gone, replaced by a huge mushroom shaped cloud of smoke. I felt a rushing heat and I was gone again. And then…

I woke up in a cold sweat. Everything was fine, it was only a dream. I went to get a glass of water and when I was passing the elevator console, I saw a small red flashing light and…

I woke up. Everything was all right, it was only a dream. Or was it? I grabbed a piece of paper and a stubby pencil that I always keep by my bed and wrote everything down, and I finished it off with a simple message:

NEVER IGNORE THE RED FLASHING LIGHT!
