"You really trying to be late again, aren't you?" Tyler said to Reid. He watched as his best friend rolled his eyes in a nonchalant gaze and mumbled some profanity while he took his precious time getting ready for another boring day of class.
Tyler knew that nothing else could be done on the matter of Reid making it to class on time for once, so he just gave in and left figuring he could at least make it in a timely manner.
Just in the nick of time, his foot brushed the entrance of the door just as the bell rang for class to start. He sat in his respective seat and looked over to see that Pogue was absent. He sat next to Caleb placing his things down before looking at him curiously.
"Where's Pogue?" he asked, although, he partially guessed what the answer it was. It was always the same lately.
Caleb sighed, as his continued annoyance of Pogue's situation set in once again. "Still sulking, I guess. He hasn't been right since Kate dumped him. You'd think she would have taken him back considering-"
"What?" Tyler cut in. "Him risking his life to save hers? Something that she knows nothing about in the first place?"
"Point taken, I guess." Caleb responded.
Tyler shook his head and smirked. "I'm sorry but no girl could be that important for me to sulk like I'm some kind of zombie. It's sad." He insulted as he took his books out.
Caleb snickered. "Ah you just haven't met the right one yet, baby boy-trust me; it's not that far-fetched."
"Yea, yea; I guess we'll never know." Tyler scoffed, as while there more than a few girls that fell victim to his charms, he never fully reciprocated those feelings.
Caleb smirked and shook his head at his little brother's seeming lack of optimism concerning his love life, for lack of a better phrase. He decided to change the subject to one of another seemingly lost cause. "Where's Reid?"
"I donno." Tyler shrugged nonchalantly. "Probably jumped back in the bed for all I know."
"Fashionably late, I guess." Caleb commented sarcastically.
"By no standards of mine." Tyler replied.
The bell rang but the teacher remained absent as he probably was in the hall sweeping the remainder of the slacking students that decided to stay in the hall a little past their time to go to class, just so they could be considered cool enough to have been late for class.
Tyler couldn't help watching Caleb; he hadn't really been the same since the fight with Chase, but he still seemed to be getting along well; at least on the outside looking in. What was lurking within him since ascension was another story. And even still, he didn't know if Caleb would have gotten this far without Sara sticking by him. He would be lying, as well, if he didn't wonder how much Caleb had used since ascension.
"So-uh-how are you?" he asked, reluctantly, knowing that Caleb was no fan of bringing up a dark past.
Caleb looked at Tyler, both amused and annoyed before turning away again. "Man, are you gonna ask me this every time we see each other?"
"Hey-just asking." Tyler defended. "But I'll leave it alone mister sensitive." He remarked to which resulted in a grimace from Caleb. Tyler ignored it and leaned back in his chair to wait for class to start.
Class finally started, and as usual Reid came in the following the teacher. He ignored the teachers ranting of him being late and coming to class on time and sat a seat up from Tyler.
Both Tyler and Caleb could see that there was something pressing on Reid's mind; and if either of them knew Reid, which they had, they already knew what it could have been, considering the fact that Reid never initiated an important subject concerning anything but females; not that they weren't subject of very important conversation in the eyes of Tyler. Still, they could see on his face that it had to have been a girl. They hadn't even a chance to inquire before he began to prove them right.
"You heard about the new girl?" he asked them both, to which he received a resounding careless no. Naturally that, of course, did not stop Reid from continuing the subject.
"I haven't seen them yet, but I hear things." He grinned. "And apparently-" he started and leaned back in his seat with his hands holding the back of his head. "They're hot."
"Hey." A lazy, deep voice greeted. They all turned to see that it was Pogue, looking almost ragged in a sense with his shaded shadow of facial hair. "What's up?" he inquired though it was obvious that he did not necessarily care.
"Reid is talking-so I hazard you to take a guess." Caleb commented. He knew that Reid's name alone would signify what he was talking about.
Before Pogue could respond Reid turned his attention to him with smirk. "Nice of you to join us, princess."
"Stuff it, Reid." Pogue spat.
"Oh, I plan to; as soon as I meet the new girl." He grinned. "Then I'll stuff it where the sun don't shine-"
"You're so gross." Pogue said slight disgust.
"Oh, get off your depressing high horse." Reid said loudly, causing a little attention. "So, you're dumped. Have you ever thought that you may need a little nookie?" He grinned.
Pogue, with a quicker temper than usual of late, flashed black for a minute before Caleb intervened. "Watch it, Reid." He gritted.
"Pogue."
He calmed himself and looked away. "I don't want to hear any more about your stupid stories and comments Reid."
"This ain't about stories, Pogue. This is about a new girl-or two with our names on em. You're damaged goods. A rebound won't hurt."
Pogue was to his limit of annoyance with his blonde friend. "I don't care about any one of your stupid hot in the pants girls, Reid."
"Fine." Reid said turning around, done with who he considered to be a lost cause. "Suit yourself." He looked at Tyler. "Baby boy!" Reid said aloud, leaning forward.
Tyler, who had zoned out at some point during the conversation, looked up when he heard his nicknamed being called. He looked at Reid, waiting for him to finish what he was about to say; when he didn't, it was clear that Reid had assumed he was mentally present throughout the whole conversation.
"What?" Tyler said.
Reid rolled his eyes. "You in or not?"
Tyler had already known that Reid wouldn't veer too far off of the subject of girls and because he was his best friend, he figured, he had nothing to lose. Just another escapade of girls. He shrugged and decided to go along with it. "I'm in."
Meanwhile…..
"How are we going to fit in at such a place, Solo?" She asked her elder sister.
Solara stood there looking at the big school that she and her sister were assigned too. She had no idea what they were in for, but she did know that they had to think of some way so sustain a mediocre and non-attention-grabbing personality. They could not keep hopping around from city to city, state to state and country to country exposing themselves. Soon there would be no place to go.
She held her doubts but she did not allow her little sister to see. She looked at Ariel reassuringly. "Don't worry-we will be fine." She said in her deepened mixed accent.
Ariel smiled at her sister and they headed to the school. "I hope you are right." She smirked.
Solara wrapped her arm around her sister's neck with a smile on her face as she looked up at Spencer Academy. "What could go wrong?"
