The sorting hat has seen many things over the years.
Big things, small things, medium things; it's seen it all.
(The good, the bad, and the absolutely terrible things too.)
It remembers the first head it sat on.
(And oh, it was a wonderful head)
Filled with courage, bravery and the urge to do the right thing.
The second head, oh the second was an interesting head.
Twas' filled with ambition and power.
(Not to mention, the secrets and the lies.)
It learned the most from the third head.
(Smartest head he ever sat on, he swore.)
Filled with knowledge, and intelligence, and a mind numbing thirst for knowledge.
The fourth head was the purest.
(And the most beautiful)
Hard-working, loyalty, and honesty was all he got from that fourth head.
He's sat on a lot of heads since then.
(He remembers every single one of them.)
The pain, the innocence, the happiness, and the sadness. It remembers it all.
Oh he's seen death, and beauty, and love, and wars.
(It's caused its own fair share of violence.)
He's saved them all as well.
Because most people don't realize something.
It's not the person who shapes the house. It's the house that shapes the person.
The hat's decisions have killed people.
(And saved them.)

A/N: Because most people forget the Hat.
The alternating use of He and It is intentioned. Makes it more symbolic.
