Book-verse. I was wondering if the Hobbits kids weren't afraid of the dwarfs…

"Poppy, look! See, the dwarfs are there! Going to Mr.Baggins! Come on!" a young Hobbit-lad called to his younger sister. She and her friends sprung up and ran to see. Indeed, a cart full of dwarfs was sailing down the road.

"Look at their beards! It must be awful to have something like that in your face!" said Porto, Poppy's brother. The others nodded.

"Good they're not as big as Gandalf, then they'd be REALLY scary!" said Poppy.

"Are you afraid of them?" asked Porto.

"No, I'm not afraid of them! They're just really hairy in their faces, that's all," answered Poppy. Porto was going to say something but then they were called in for dinner.

The next day they saw Gandalf coming. In hope of seeing some fireworks, they ran after him and his cart all the way to Bag End.

"Maybe we'll see some when he stops," whispered Poppy hopefully to her friends. Some dwarfs walked out of the Hobbithole and helped Gandalf to unload the cart. Still no fireworks.

"Poppy, prove that you're not afraid of the dwarfs. I don't believe you're not afraid of them!" said Porto. Poppy gulped. She couldn't do anything; she was dying of fright because of those dwarfs.

"Well?" asked Porto again.

"Alright," whispered Poppy and took hesitant steps forward. What could she do? There was one dwarf who turned his back to her… maybe she could… yes, she'd kick him! She ran forward, kicked his legs swiftly and then she ran back to her friends.

"See? I am NOT afraid of dwarfs!" she announced proudly. Then she trotted happily home, although Gandalf hadn't wanted to show them any fireworks.

Meanwhile, back at Bag End, a dwarf was wondering what he had done to deserve a well aimed kick at his ass from a tiny Hobbit girl!

This is actually based on a real event. I was on a Viking-festival, (dressed up as a Viking!) and talking to a guy dressed up as a Viking also, when this four-year-old boy or something, came and kicked the guy, out of the blue! We guessed that the kid was showing that he wasn't afraid of the Vikings ; )
