A First Glimpse of Red

Red was a cool colour. That's why he'd picked it. Because red looked strong and fierce and passionate, and it was perfect for his digimon.

But red looked like fresh shining blood when it was in real life and not on those notebook papers he'd been scribbling on. Red looked like fire burning dreams away. Red looked like the dark circles and notes in the margin his teacher left on his poorly done homework submissions.

Red was supposed to be a dream colour, but sometimes, close up, it looked like a nightmare.

Like the first time he'd seen Guilmon. He'd been scared out of his mind, that big monstrous dinosaur coming to him, shining like he'd just bathed in blood.

In reality, he'd ben shining because he'd just bio-merged and the residue data from the digital world still clung to him.

And then there was the first time he digivolved, into Growlmon. Apparently, he hadn't learnt his lesson the first time, because he'd coloured in deep and dark…and red. And Growlmon was that red: a red monster coloured uncontrolled passion and Takato was sure the little spot of blood he'd make on the sole of the other's foot would fade into the colour.

Luckily, Growlmon had better control than that and wasn't thirsty for his blood, but that fear was still there.

And Megidramon was probably the icing on the cake, because Takato had been seeing red then as well, redder than Guilmon's red or Growlmon's red or the red on their D-powers. Megidramon was probably the embodiment of everything bad about red too: the colour of uncontrolled red, of bloodlust, of living hell

Red was supposed to be a cool colour. Not that.
