Disclaimer: I do not own Metroid in any way (Though I wish…). It is the property of Nintendo. Milton Guasti/DoctorM64 owns any and all content from Another Metroid 2 Remake. I also do not claim ownership of the paraphrased passages from S.D. Perry's Resident Evil novels. Only the original characters belong to me.
Note: I started writing this story on paper when I was in 9th grade in 2005—5 years before Metroid Other M came out. During that time, my main Metroid story inspiration (aside from the games that is) was the Nintendo Power Super Metroid comic. So there will be many tie-ins to that comic's storyline along with my own twists in between.
And one of the reasons why I haven't added a new chapter to this story in a while is because of writer's block. However, I have lately been attacking that problem from a different angle: Going back and editing what I've already done. In the process I realized that my story's pacing was kind of like a B-movie rather the adrenaline-pumping suspense story it's meant to be. Thanks to my revisions and bringing my A-game to my writing, I have created a much better story full of new and fleshed out "scenes," better character development, and fixing plot holes.
A key factor in this that requires my thanks is author S.D. Perry and his Resident Evil novels which offered great new ideas to revise my story and inspired information for future chapters. Anytime I use paraphrased passages from his works, should be seen as me paying homage to someone far more talented than myself.
It is 2016 at the time of my updates of Chapters 1-12, and I revised those chapters as a way to contribute to Metroid's 30 year anniversary which as of September 2016 has yet to see a new game to coincide such an event. I hope this revised story fills Metroid fans' hearts well.
And without ado, here is the...
Chapter 1/Prologue: Where the Trouble Began
On the far edges of the frontier region in the Cosmos, lies a planet of great potential and danger…
Planet: SR388
Mass: 3 trillion teratons.
Terrain: Rocky; mountains and cliffs on the surface, and deep subterranean caves.
Atmosphere: Oxygen-rich
Population: None. Inhospitable due to hazardous ecosystems and countless hostile species. Including metroids…
Note: As described above I have chosen to make SR388's atmosphere not radioactive but oxygen-rich. Therefore, people can walk on its surface without any life support systems or gear.
From out of the depths of deep space comes a large green freighter that exits out of warp drive.
Biologic Space Laboratories (B.S.L) Research Vessel, Humane Society
Crew: 12
Destination: SR388
*Note: I encourage readers to use your imagination and pick out your own physical appearance of my OC's, I'll only specify what the major characters look like. And the B.S.L. Humane Society looks exactly like the Biologics' Vessel from Metroid Fusion, but is half that vessel's size.
In the ship's bridge, the captain and his female first mate talk as they gaze upon their planetary destination.
Captain Schneider: "There she is: SR388. Ain't she a beauty?
Kirby: "I don't know why you're making such a big deal about it. It just looks like some big rock to me."
Schneider: "Well, you may see it that way. As for me…I see a completely alien world. It's full of life and under no one's jurisdiction but the creatures that live on it. It has no ulterior motives, no ambitions, nothing to even strive for except to simply exist…It's completely free, a miracle of nature."
Kirby (rolls her eyes): "Yadda, yadda. Let's just get our job done. I'm patching ya to the cargo bay, Cap'n."
Schneider draws his attention to the main monitor on his control panel that shows a video-image of the cargo bay. In it are 10 people: Five are scientists, and five are enlisted in the B.S.L. Special Countermeasure Task Force (SCMTF). The SCMTF wear armor identical to the armorsuits worn by the Galactic Federation Army. The exceptions are that the SCMTF's suits are gray in color and have green face-visors. All turn their attention to the sound of Schneider's voice as he speaks in the ship's comm that's patched into the bay.
Schneider: "Okay boys and girls let's go over the plan one more time: We set down in T-minus five minutes. When the doors open Baker, Steven, Riley, Pam, and Udenski will set up a perimeter. Once they confirm the area is clear Ben, Chucky, Cara, Matt, and Yuri will gather plant and earth samples, five tons each. Then we'll dust off and head home. Remember to maintain constant communications. This is a quick and routine visit. We're not here to sight-see or study anything planet-side, so this should take no more than thirty minutes assuming there aren't any hostiles."
Udenski: "And if there are, we'll smoke 'em."
The Humane Society lands and the boarding ramp drops down. Almost immediately the five B.S.L. SCMTF troops storm out into the open riding on single-person hovercrafts equipped with forward-facing .50 caliber machine guns.
Riley: "Move, move, move!"
Udenski: "Spread out and sweep the area, we don't want any animals getting in our way. And put your motion trackers around the ship!"
Pam: "Got it!"
Although only Pam responded, the other three also proceeded to set up the motion trackers. After one full minute, the SCMTF people have all motion trackers in place around the area the scientists intend to collect their cargo.
Baker: "I'm getting a regular reading; nothing here but us."
Schneider's voice over the comm: "Copy that. Okay research team, move in."
Chucky: "Heard that."
Matt: "Let's get this over with."
The scientists, unlike the SCMTF troops, do not have armorsuits, but simple field gear to allow maximum mobility and dexterity when operating their extractions machines. The extractors look exactly like small caterpillar construction machines, but with multiple sticks and buckets rather than only one. After digging up plants and earth, the samples are put inside construction-dumpster-sized steel containers. The dumpsters have repulsor engines for hovering and are remote-control operated by the scientists using the control panels in their excavators.
As the scientists gather samples with the SCMTF keeping guard, everyone is unaware that somewhere past the trackers…something, or more accurately, somethings are watching them…somethings with greenish-orange vision/sight in which prey appears red to its eyes…
After 23 minutes, the scientists have finished their sample gathering and they program the dumpsters to return to the ship's cargo hold. After the dumpsters have returned to their numerically-designated troughs, the scientists pilot their excavators inside and proceed to secure those for travel. Once the scientists are inside, the SCMTF troops come in after that, but they leave behind their motion trackers—intentionally. As per B.S.L.'s order, the reason is because the motion trackers serve a secondary purpose of transmitting a constant data feed of any and all ongoings at the coordinates of the area they were set up. That way, if the area became unsafe or invalid for another research vessel to land, said vessel could find a safer area. Conversely, safe areas offered the optimal places for return trips.
And of course, the trackers represent an astounding accomplishment in human history. As with the American flag from the moon landing in the 20th century, the trackers symbolically declare that unchartered planets have been visited, that the human sphere of influence has expanded once again, and that it was B.S.L. who made such an achievement. In time, that small step would become a great leap for the human race as the entire planet's surface would bear the trackers and provide scientists from all over the cosmos with rich reservoirs of information to add to the ever-changing, ever-growing scientific knowledge.
Inside the cargo bay, the scientists have finished manually securing their sample cargo dumpsters by activating magnetized clamps to hold the large containers in their place.
Steven: "Alright, we're all done here, Cap'n. Let's go get our paychecks."
Schneider: "10-4, warming her up."
In the bridge Schneider and Kirby flips some switches and press some buttons and the ship's engine hums in standby mode.
As the last of the SCMTF troops finish securing their hovercrafts, there was only one simple task left to complete.
Baker: "Close the bay's exterior hatch will yuh, Steven?"
Steven: "I'm on it."
The creatures, now seeing Steven walking to the lever, move closer. When Steven pulls the lever down the door starts shutting fast and the creatures make a mad dash to the ship. They barely make it inside and watch Steven close the door of the cargo hold, leaving them trapped in the room.
In the bridge, Schneider and Kirby are watching a schematic of the ship on a computer screen. The screen turns from all yellow to all blue as the boarding hatch is sealed.
Kirby: "Alright boys and girls strap in tight or hold on to your butts. We have liftoff in five, four, three, two, one."
After a quick 10 minute ascent, the ship is now in space. The SCMTF troops have put away their armor and, like everyone else on board, are in their normal uniforms. Schneider presses the ship's master comm to be heard in every room.
Schneider: "Great job, everyone! This was a very important haul, and we achieved it flawlessly. When we get back to Earth, we're going to the best bar in the Federation's Capital City. Drinks are on me, and I'm gonna spoil ya'll rotten."
Schneider chuckles when he hears numerous voices yell and whistles in praise. It was one of the very few perks that made his job worth something. He's always lived by the belief that a good captain takes care of his crew. He also knows how stressful it can be to work for B.S.L.
Like many others, he was drawn into working for that organization by the promise of great pay, adventure, and of making a name for himself. Although all that was true, what B.S.L. didn't mention—even in fine print—was the excessively long hours, extremely demanding work, and very low tolerance for mistakes. But he could see the look on his wife and two kids' faces when he walked into his house and told them they were going on a very long vacation. And he was pretty sure the rest of the crew and their families would be just as excited.
After he finishes chucking, Schneider adds, "But before that, we got two more things to take care. First, Kirby and I will need to plot our course back to Galactic Federation Headquarters. This'll take longer than usual because we're getting reports of some heavy traffic in the primary warp drive lane. So we'll need to maintain sublight drive for a bit as we find a clear path. And two, I want Baker, as the head of our science team, to come up to the main communication array to phone B.S.L. HQ and tell 'em we're on our way with the cargo."
Kirby (in sarcastic humor): "Thank you again for choosing the B.S.L. Humane Society as your flight across the cosmos. Be sure to shop for crappy merchandise and distasteful food at the starport after we waste 30 minutes of your precious time to get to a tarmac that's been clear hours before our arrival."
Schneider grins as he turns the master comm off before hearing the reaction to that colorful comment because sometimes imagination is better than reality. And he sure could imagine a number of responses.
In the common area of their quarters, the scientists watch SR388 grow smaller and smaller as their ships flies away.
Matt: "That went better than I could ever hope for. Now I'll be able to get back in time to attend my daughter's high school graduation."
Chucky: "In a normal job such as this one, they would usually allow you to take a few hours off for that. But as we all know, B.S.L. finds the darnest ways to make ya work."
Matt: "Actually I didn't mind that as much as the fact that we went to a reputably hostile planet and saw no lifeforms on it, at all. I thought SR388 had a Class XII Danger Rating. But I don't see what the big deal was…Planet seemed pretty empty to me."
Pam: "Yeah. I guess some Federation Police/Patrol CO must have over exaggerated his observation of the planet. But what I wouldn't give to study a lifeform from there. It would be a gold mine for research. Not to mention—"
Suddenly, the whole ship starts vibrating and alarms go off.
Cara: "What's goin' on? Why're we shaking like a wet dog?"
Kirby's voice over the master comm: "Everyone we have a situation here."
Schneider's voice over the master comm: "Pressure's unstable. Life support's fading fast. I recommend having your portable LS units on standby."
Up in the bridge, Riley enters the room. Before the emergency he was on his way to the ship's lounge to join the rest of his SCMTF co-workers. But since he has the most engineering experience on the ship (besides Schneider and Kirby) he decided to lend a hand.
Schneider: "Oh perfect timing, Riley. Me and Kirby need to remain here to divert pressure and electrical systems so the ship won't rip itself apart. I need you to go to the cargo hold and turn on the auxiliary pumps!"
Riley: "You got it!"
Having already removed his armorsuit, and knowing there was no time to put it back on, Riley immediately heads for the cargo hold.
It takes him three minutes to reach his destination, and as Riley enters the cargo hold he is surprised that the lights are out. He flips the switch, but nothing happens.
Riley: "Strange…" (Pulls out a flashlight and walks in the room)
Schneider's voice on Riley's comm inside his shirt pocket: "Riley what's your status?"
Riley: "Cargo hold's power is out, but I have a flashlight and am proceeding."
Schneider: "Well hurry up. We've lost 20 percent of oxygen already."
Riley wastes no time. He already notices that taking in a breath was becoming a chore, and had heard stories of what happened to the crew of ships that lost their life supports. The painful death by asphyxiation, of feeling your own life leave you little by little with each breath, was too horrifying to imagine. He quickly steps up to the pump but notices the floor's all sticky and slimy.
Riley: "Huh?"
After two seconds he shrugs and turns his attention back to the pump's switch.
As he's working, the creatures see Riley with their vision. They are above him and slowly start to lower themselves closer, and closer…
Riley flips the switch on and the auxiliary pump kick into action. The whole ship makes a loud hiss for ten seconds, but the air has become easier to breathe in that time frame. The lights in the hold also come back on for some strange reason.
Riley to his wrist comm: "Pump's online captain."
Schneider's voice: "Excellent work. Oxygen levels rising back to normal and the pressure is equalized. Get back up here. I'll make sure to put in a bonus for you saving our asses."
Riley (smiles): "I'm heading you wa—ARRGH!"
The creatures attack Riley, causing him to scream. There are 10 of them. They are large, aggressive, and flying, parasitic predators…They are metroids.
In the bridge Captain Schneider and Kirby hear Riley's scream over the comm and then it becomes muffled, and stops shortly after that.
Schneider: "Riley? What happened? Riley…?" (Annoyed, not taking Riley's situation seriously) "Gaahhh…"
Schneider turns on a monitor to look in the cargo hold, but to his dismay, no image is being displayed. Knowing that some steam pressure from the crisis beforehand must have short-circuited the camera's wiring, he presses a few more buttons. To his bewilderment, all of the other cameras outside the cargo hold are operating normally. But not dwelling on it for too long, Schneider presses the particular buttons that makes his monitor show Udenski in the man's quarters.
Schneider: "Hey Udenski?"
Udenski: "Da?"
Schneider: "Riley got himself into another little mess in the cargo hold. The hold's camera's are out, so go see what's happening, will ya?"
Udenski: "Ok…" (Mumbling in frustration)"Der'mo ya dolzhen mirit'sya s .../The crap I have to put up with…"
He makes sure he still has his pistol—a common habit of his since he never leaves it behind no matter what's up—and heads out.
As he enter the cargo hold Udenski hears a strange sound. It sounds like something sucking… He grips his pistol and slowly walks toward the direction of the sounds.
He passes a large stack of cargo crates and on the other side he sees the metroids siphoning Riley's limp body. What was most revolting of all was that the creatures actually grew as they siphoned.
Udenski (shocked): "Oh… my…GAAAAAAAWWWWD!"
As he says "Gawd" all of the metroids latch off of Riley's corpse and turn their attention to Udenski who instinctively squeezes his pistol's trigger. Nothing happens. He looks at it and sees he forgot to turn the safety off.
Not wanting to wait, he holsters his gun and starts running out of the room as the metroids chase after him.
Udenski talking into his shirt pocket comm: "Schneider, we have an emergency! Riley's dead! He was killed by some *pant* flying, bloodsucking monsters!"
Schneider's voice on Udenski's comm: "What do you mean 'monsters', what's chasing you?"
Udenski: "You tell me. You're the SR388 fanboy around here!"
Schneider's voice on Udenski's comm: "Where are you now?"
Udenski: "Passing through the lower west sector! I'm gonna try and beat them to the access tunnel…" (Hears metroids getting closer) "Damn it these things are fast!"
Schneider's voice on Udenski's comm: "How many are there and what do they look like?"
Udenski: "I'm not looking back till I get behind a locked door!"
Udenski shuts off his comm to avoid any more distractions and runs harder. When he reaches the door he pulls the lever on the wall to his right to close the door and lock it the moment he passes through. The door shuts in the blink of an eye and Udenski sits down on the floor while laying against the door, panting erratically and catching his breath. When he's done he turns his comm back on and speaks into it.
Udenski: "I did it…I'm safe now and the door's locked tight."
Schneider's voice on Udenski's comm: "Alright, Udenski. Take a deep breath and relax." (Pauses for five seconds) "Now tell me, what is on this ship? Give as much detail as you can."
Udenski: "I have NO clue what they are, but I know that they're from the planet. They probably sneaked aboard while Steven closed the cargo hatch."
Schneider: "But the motion trackers…?"
Udenski: "The motion trackers pick up creatures that walk, climb, or swim; not fly."
Baker enters the bridge holding a small disk.
Baker: "Hey Cap'n, I got a message from HQ—"
Schneider: "Hold on Baker, we have a problem bigger than the one from before. There're some creatures on this ship and they're dangerous…They… killed Riley…"
Baker (Shocked): "Say what?"
Schneider: "Udenski is at the lower west sector access hatch, he's telling me about them." (On comm) "What else Udenski?"
Udenski's voice on Schneider's comm terminal: "They're big, almost man-sized. I walked into the cargo hatch and saw three latched onto Riley and two more hovering near him, but there could be more…"
Schneider: "Latched?"
Udenski's voice: "They have mandibles and from the looks of it they were sucking Riley's blood out."
Schneider: "Alright let's all take it easy. You shut the hatch right?"
Udenski's voice: "Da."
Schneider: "Okay hang tight for a minute or two and take a breather, I'm sending some help your way." (cuts off comm and looks at Baker) "Baker, I need you to get Steve and Pam, arm yourselves with the light MGs, and go get Udenski. Also take Dr. Yuri with you and have him bring a portable bio-scanner. I wanna know exactly what's on my ship and how to kill 'em."
Baker: "Aye, aye!"
Back at the lower west access hatch Udenski is still trying to calm down. The creatures he saw were just...not right. The way they looked, the way they moved, and the way they fed just screamed unnatural...And that's saying something even in the Cosmos where strange new species are being discovered weekly. Then his comm comes on.
Schneider's voice: "They're coming Udenski, meet them at the stairwell."
Udenski: "On my way."
As Udenski gets up he can't help but wonder why the creatures haven't been trying to break the door down…But doesn't plan on looking through the viewing window to check either. He simply gets straight up and deactivates his pistol's safety. Not the soundest of idea, but if he needs it again, he won't make the same mistake twice.
The instant his head is in front of the window, a metroid smashes the glass and while its body is too big to fit through, its mandibles and mouth are not. It starts draining Udenski's life energy while also trying to pull his head through the widow.
Udenski feels the bones and sinews of his neck start to stretch too far. In complete panic, he screams and accidentally fires his gun at the door's lever and the door opens as fast as it had closed. The metroid lets go of Udenski whose head—being still through the window—is decapitated by the opening door.
Knowing the life energy still teeming inside Udenski's body will rapidly become useless upon death, the metroids that have not fed yet quickly converge and feast. After 30 seconds, they have finished and all of the metroids proceed through. Now more powerful and hungrier than ever.
As Pam, Baker, Steven, and Dr. Yuri enter the stairwell, they hear the metroids' "floating sound" (Note: Like from the Metroid Prime games). Yuri looks down and sees the metroids ascending the staircase.
Yuri: "Th-They're coming! How did they get through?! Maybe they—"
Baker: "Stop thinking, Doctor. Get behind me with that bio-scanner and scan these creeps! The rest of you lock and load: It's game time!"
When the metroids reach the top, Yuri presses a button and scans a metroid, but the computer has to take time to ID the creature(s).
Baker: "Fire!"
The three SCMTF officers spray the Metroids with their machine guns, but the bullets crumble as soon as they make contact with the Metroids' resilient skin.
Pam: "We're not doing anything! Our guns aren't working against these…these."
Yuri (bio-scanner is done with its analysis): "Metroids! The scanner says they're 'metroids'! They're immune to all conventional weaponry!"
The revelation sent a chill down the spine of all who heard it. This was a fight they could not win.
Baker: "Fall back now!"
The group runs into the main deck of the ship, but they aren't fast enough to escape.
From the bridge Schneider and Kirby hear the distant sound of screams, followed by more MG fire, then nothing. Being that the ship was otherwise empty, the sounds echoed throughout the vessel. After exchanging worried glances, Schneider tries to make contact, not bothering to hide the worry in his voice.
Schneider on the four people's comm: "Yuri…Baker…Pam…Steven…do you copy?"
Yuri activates his secondary comm on his wrist at the exact moment a metroid latches onto his legs, forcing him to the floor. Another latches onto his back.
Yuri (screaming in pain): "Metroids! M-m-m-METROIDSssssss ARGHHH!"
The comm goes silent.
In the bridge Schneider and Kirby both slowly look at each other in horror.
Kirby (so scared that she's whispering): "What do we do, Greg?"
When Schneider speaks, it's in realization that he has failed his personal oath of a good captain always taking good care of his crew…True, it wasn't his fault that things turned out the way they did, but his failure today would be forever etched into his memory. However, his voice is also filled with resolve. He makes a silent vow that no one else is going to die or he's not this vessel's captain.
Schneider: "Get a flamethrower. We're going to head to the scientists' quarters to grab whoever's left and get to the life boats. And fry any anything that gets in our way."
Kirby: "But we don't need to fight them—"
Schneider: "Riley, Pam, Steven, Baker, and Udenski are some of the best people I've had the honor of working with. And Yuri is my friend…We're gonna make these 'metroid' fuckers pay!"
The look in Schneider's eye was all that had to be seen in order to end any arguments for the contrary. Kirby had also grown close to each of the crew members, and she knew they all had family; spouses and children, some of the older ones even had (or were expecting) grandchildren as well. Kirby feels obligated to be the one who lets the families know what happened here today, which gives her a reason to survive and a source of righteous fury.
Kirby: "Alright, let's do it."
Both of them grab flamethrowers from an emergency weapon cache beneath their feet and walk through the ship cautiously. They arrive at the scientists' quarters and slowly walk inside the empty common area, leaving the door open in case they need to run away.
Kirby: "Guys, you in here?"
All of the scientist come out from hiding inside lockers, cabinets, and closets.
Matt (Tense): "W-w-what's going on out there? We h-h-heard gunshots and screams?"
Schneider: "Metroids…They snuck on board and have been killing everyone ever since. It's just us now. We gotta abandon ship pronto!"
Kirby (walks to the open door): "Let's go!"
As the group approaches the door, a metroid suddenly gets in their way. The scientists scream.
Kirby: "Burn you freak of nature!"
She fires her flamethrower, hoping that her hatred for the monstrosity before her will somehow increase the power of the flames. The stream of fire causes the metroid to shriek…but in surprise, not in pain.
Unharmed—and now angry—the metroid breaks through the fire and latches on Kirby's face.
Schneider: "Kirby, NOOOO!"
The death of the ship's first mate was bad enough, but worse still was that her hand continues to grip the flamethrower's trigger in rigor mortis. The weapon sets the left side of the room on fire and barley misses Schneider who ducks just in time to avoid certain death. Chucky is hit by a glancing blast of Kirby's flamethrower, but Ben grabs a nearby fire extinguisher and douses his friend before any serious damage could be done.
As soon as Schneider gets out of harm's way, he fires the flamethrower furiously while the scientists make a run for the escape pod bay, with Ben and Cara helping Chucky walk. While still using his flamethrower, Schneider walks to the door, shuts it, and then runs. On his way the power flicks on and off…Then goes out. The emergency lights kick in, giving the ship an eerie, dim atmosphere.
Schneider thinking: "They must've cut off the power! God dammit, these things can think?!"
When he reaches the escape pod bay, Cara comes running toward him.
Cara: "Schneider! Not this way!"
Schneider: "What happened?!"
Cara: "The metroids ambushed us! I'm the only one left and they're right behind me!"
Cara runs past Schneider who looks at his flamethrower…It's out. Apparently in his blind rage after seeing Kirby die he must have had his flamethrower on maximum setting. And there were no other flamethrowers on this deck...Not that it would matter against these monsters.
Schneider: "Shit!"
He drops the flamer on the floor and catches up with Cara as the metroids follow in pursuit.
Cara: "Where to?!"
Schneider: "The bridge. We gotta make a distress call…Tell the Federation what's happened."
Seeing their fleeing prey the metroids fly faster, rapidly closing the gap between them.
Cara starts to tire from the running and Schneider passes her.
Cara: "Wait up!"
Schneider: "Move it, c'mon! We're nearly there!"
Suddenly, Cara trips, spraining her ankle and falling flat on the floor.
Cara: "Schneider! HELP ME!"
Schneider stops and looks at Cara. The metroids are 10 feet away from her and closing. He looks at the bridge three feet in front of him, then back at Cara, and finally back at the bridge again. Schneider feels a lump in his throat.
Schneider: "…I'm sorry…"
He enters the bridge and presses the lever to shut the door.
Cara: "NO! DON'T LEAVE MEEE-eeighARRGH!"
The three metroids latch onto her, and all goes black.
Schneider was able to glimpse Cara's death as the door began shutting. As soon as the door closed Schneider collapses on the floor, buries his face in his hands, and starts to cry, hating himself for what he had just done to one of his own crewmates…
Schneider buries his face in his hands and says, "God…Please...forgive me…And help us—all humans. God help us."
The metroids suddenly bang against the door, causing Schneider to jump and scream in terror. He heads over to the ship's control panel.
Schneider: "C'mon, c'mon…Please. Still be online."
His spirits are lifted when he sees control panel is still functioning.
Wham!
The metroids hit the door harder, causing it to buckle forward.
Schneider activates the comm system without delay. He broadcasts on the frequency reserved for only the most urgent and dire emergencies: Frequency 01129, code-named Baby's Cry.
Schneider: "Mayday, mayday! This Captain Gregory Schneider of the B.S.L. Humane Society, pick up!"
A one second pause and there was no response.
Schneider: "I repeat this is Captain Gregory Schneider of the B.S.L. Humane Society! Mayday, mayday!"
An African American GF Police/Patrolman appears on a terminal as states, "Galactic Federation Interstellar Police/Patrol Force, what's your emergency, position, and status?"
Schneider: "Emergency: My crew and I set down on SR388 on Biologic Space Labs orders to collect plant and earth samples. When we were done we took off with no problems…Until we discovered the hard way that about 10 of these flying parasitic predators called 'metroids' had secretly boarded our ship. The metroids went on a rampage—"
WHAM! The door buckles more.
Schneider: "Oh God!—and started killing everything in sight. I'm the only one left; the metroids killed the first mate, the scientists, and the SCMTF officers—"
WHAM!
Schneider: "Damn, they're wall-to-wall out there!—Position: I've just passed Mark #3 outside the SR388 system, but I'm gonna stop the ship." (Presses a button that will gradually do just that) "Status—"
WHAM!
Schneider: "Aaah!—the primary power's down, and emergency systems will fail in a few minutes!"
WHAM!
And now there is a small crack in the door that's been bent forward two feet, but is still holding.
Schneider: "The metroids will break through the door any moment! Don't bother sending anyone out here to save me…I'm dead already…If you do send someone, tell 'em to blow this vessel to hell!" (Gets out his pistol) "Just do everything in your power to make this message, the final transmission of the B.S.L. Humane Society, makes it to Galactic Federation HQ!"
WHAM!
Schneider: "Stay away from planet SR388 at all costs! Do not seek this place for any reason unless you have the intention of exterminating everything on it!
WHAM! The door is knocked off.
Schneider (while turning around): "HERE THEY COOOOOOMMMEEEE!"
He continues to scream as he fires his pistol several times at the Metroids in vain. They latch onto his face, and Schneider falls backward, hitting the accelerator switch and the metroids keep his body pinned against it. The ships rockets at tremendous speeds.
Ship's Computer (male voice): "Warning. Heat and energy levels rising too high. Reduce speed immediately." (A three second pause)
"Warning. Engines overloading. Main reactor is going critical. Ship will explode in in 10 seconds. 9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1…"
The frigate explodes. After a few moments, the black emptiness of the space is silent again.
