Beck woke up to the sound of guns all around him. "Oliver, on the
field, NOW!" yelled the commander. Beck got up, grabbed his gun, and
ran to the field, shooting down enemies left and right. It was going
to be a bloody battle.
After the battle was over, the men were in their bunks, chatting.
"Oliver, I need to speak with you. Come to my office." said the
commander gravely. Beck followed him to his office. "What did you want
to speak to me about, sir?" Beck asked. "Sit down son, I got some news
from a friend of yours Beck, a Miss Cat Valentine?" Beck sat down.
"Yeah, I know her. What did she say?" Beck asked "She said that your
girlfriend Jade had gotten in a car crash and was killed on the spot.
I'm sorry." the commander said, looking at Beck with sympathy in his
eyes. Beck was in shock. 'Jade...dead? No, she can't be dead, no!'
Beck shot up, drenched in sweat. 'What a nightmare.' he thought,
shuddering. He had been thinking about joining the service, but now
he wasn't sure if he should. He looked over at Jade, sleeping
peacefully beside him, thankful that the horrible nightmare wasn't real.
Suddenly, a thought came to Beck. What if that horrible nightmare
was a sign from his dad who had recently passed away? 'That could be a
possibility' he thought. 'Well, I do know one thing, there's no way in
hell I'm joining the army. If Jade died while I was away, I...I don't
even want to think about it' He felt Jade stir next to him.
"Ugh...Beck, something wrong?" she asked, rubbing the sleep from her
eyes. "Yeah, just had a nightmare."
"About what?"
"I dreamt I was in the service, and I got a message from Cat saying
you..."
"I what?" she asked softly
"She said you got in a car crash and were killed on impact." he said,
tears streaming down his face.
Jade was in shock 'I...died? And Beck was in the army? Oh my God..'
She noticed Beck's tears. "Babe, stop crying. I'm not dead, and I'm
not GOING to die, ok?" Beck took a deep breath and wiped his eyes. "I
know, but the thought of you dying...I just can't picture it."
"I know, but look, I'm never leaving you, never. Even if I die-which
won't be any time soon- I'll still be with you, in your heart." Beck
managed to smile just a little bit. Rarely did Jade ever say anything
like that. "Thanks. That nightmare was good for something, though."
"Really? What?" Jade asked
"It made me decide that there's no way in hell I'm joining. The
thought of something happening to you and me not bieng here...it's
just too horrible to think about." Jade smiled widely, and tackled him
on the bed, showering him with kisses. He wasn't going to leave. He
was going to stay right where he belonged, with her.
