The Perfect Blue

"Sakura, look, it's a kunai!" Naruto pointed at a particular cloud in the pale blue sky.

"Yeah, I see it now." Sakura sat by his side, her hair--that was growing long--mingling with the wind that rattled the leaves on the trees that framed their village. They were perched atop a hill, not too far from the village, but a ways away for some peace as they relaxed after training together. She sighed. Her hands were tired, her eyelids threatened to fall on her…she needed this. With Naruto or not, she still needed relaxation.

"Hey Sakura," Naruto asked softly, still gazing at the mass of sky above them. "What is the perfect blue?"

Sakura looked puzzled at him, wondering what he meant.

"Seriously, Sakura-chan, what is the perfect blue?" Naruto sighed deeply.

"Naruto, you said they sky, right?" She asked him.

"Yeah, that's right. Or the ocean." He told her, thinking of the sea's salty smell, and crashing waves.

"Naruto-kun," Naruto whipped his head to look over at her. She turned to him. "I see where the ocean touches the sky in your eyes. They are the perfect blue." She smiled lovingly at the blond ninja, and he blushed.

"Sakura-chan…" He leaned over to her and captured her small form in a warm embrace.

She sighed into his shoulder. 'I have always loved you, Naruto. Ever since Sasuke left us…two years ago. And when we were kids. Sasuke was a cover-up. He never cared what I did or said. But you did…you were always there…' "I love you, Naruto." She lifted her head to look at him, and smiled again.

'I love everything about you, Sakura…I always have…' "I love you too, Sakura-chan." He leaned down and placed a delicate but emotional kiss on her lips.

She kissed back, and laid her head back on his shoulder. She was glad Ino had pushed her to go with him to shut him up…
