Hey y'all. I'm sure this is a little bizarre and I know it's really short. But I just watched "42" and I love it! I like how Martha and Riley become a little close.

Someone to believe in

He'd never really had anyone to believe in. His dad had died when he was very young, he didn't have any family now besides his mom, and they were estranged. So as he'd sat in that little escape pod with Martha Jones (She and her friend the Doctor had appeared out of nowhere!) he was amazed that she had a person to believe in.

"The works. Mum, Dad, Dad's girlfriend." He gave her a sympathetic glance. "Sister, brother; no silence there. So much noise." Her voice was shaking slightly and he felt the urge to hug the slender mysterious girl. "They'll never know. I'll have just gone missing and they'll never know." Her voice cracked. Riley gave an inward sigh. This was hurting her so much more than him. He didn't see the fairness in that. She was staring at him then, her dark eyes wet.

"Call them." He stated softly. With a little hesitation, Martha pulled her mobile out of her pocket, and dialed her mother's number.

"Nothing's wrong, just…you know I love you right?" She struggled to keep her voice steady and clear. He cast an encouraging smile as he tried not to listen to her conversation. "It's just I never say it. There's never enough time, I just never say it." As she listened to her mother, Riley found himself staring out the window at the ever growing sun.

"Mum, can we not just talk?" Her mother must have asked what she wanted to talk about. "I dunno; what's on telly, what you had for breakfast, how much you're gonna kill dad next time you see him." There was a pause. "I'm just out with some mates." Her face hardened for a second. He was willing to bet 100 pounds that her mother had asked her about the Doctor. "I'd better go." As soon as she hung up, she burst into tears, huge sobs wracking her frame. He'd wrapped his arms tightly around her, placing a gentle kiss on her deep caramel forehead.

And now, as he sat on the deck, thinking and waiting for the authorities, Riley Vashtee couldn't help but give a small smile. Hope was a powerful thing. And sometimes, it rubbed off on people. And Martha Jones had rubbed off on him. He'd found someone to believe in.

"I'm sure you'll find someone to believe in someday."

"I think I already have."
