this is for the atmospheres forum's (check it out! :D) valentines day exchange, with a pairing of mosh.

prompt: "and you are the piece of me i wish i didn't need" - clarity, zedd

this was supposed to be fluff. it sort of was. and then it wasn't. oops.

and it's horrible. double oops.

please r&r.

it's a natural instinct

when you're hit, you run

when you're abused day after day, you flee

but you always come back

at least she does

.

.

.

from a young age, massie block prided herself on her ability to handle things

from her mother's sharp words

to her father's taunting

to her boyfriend's laughter when she caught him making out with her best friend

she always kept her head up

her eyes retained their amber glow

her lips stayed glossy

her clothes were perfect

and she wouldn't fall apart

.

.

.

after walking in on said boyfriend, when he was making out with said best friend, her world came crashing down

not a lot

just a little

a strong enough earthquake to form some cracks in the glass

that was all

but it was enough for someone to force their way in through those cracks and make her believe in them

that person was joshua hotz

.

.

.

she always knew there was something behind those chocolate-brown eyes

that tan skin

that perfect smile

but the teeth were too sharp, too pointed, cruel

she didn't know how cruel

.

.

.

it was a day in late winter when he asked her to marry him

she trusted him

she said yes

.

.

.

mid-summer was when the ceremony took place

friends of hers held bouquets of flowers

friends of his stood tall and proud, dates on their arms

parents dabbed at their eyes

children slipped and skidded on the shiny floor

they kissed

.

.

.

he brought her home that night and demanded that she sleep with him

"no," she said, and thought that would be the end

isn't marriage based on mutual respect?

but, "yes," he said, and pinned her to the bed

she fought and screamed and kicked

and she noticed that perfect smile

the teeth were so sharp, so pointed

so cruel

.

.

.

that was only the beginning

he punched her

kicked her

shoved her into walls

killed her too many times to count

.

.

.

five months later was december

it was new year's eve

joshua hotz was drunk

she could taste the scotch on his lips as he kissed her

a brutal kiss, bruising her lips

she felt no more love for him, none at all

just pain

.

.

.

that was the first time she left

the next day, she came back

her head whirled

her heart stung

but she came back

because she'd always known him

and how could he hurt her anymore, now that he knew what he would lose?

.

.

.

that night, he hurt her again

and again

and again

and again

and again and again and again and again

over and over and over

pain

that was all she felt now

pain

.

.

.

she left again

and she returned

because he was the only one who knew the real her

.

.

.

he was the only one who'd ever wanted her

and if the only reason he wanted her was to abuse her, be that as it may

at least it was something

.

.

.
